Another Abandoned Baby Needs Identification!

Another abandoned baby is in the news, just a week after an infant was located in Missouri. Hopefully this baby's story isn't as tragic as that of the Missouri infant, whose mother was found shot dead and stuffed in her trunk just a few days ago. The infant, which was abandoned at a New Jersey hospital before the new year, still hasn't been identified, and her story is only now being shared through media headlines.

Do you know anyone who may have been pregnant, but suddenly is not? Do you know of any pregnant women who may have gone missing? It should be noted that New Jersey does in fact have a 'no questions asked' safe haven law, and the only time alerts like these are shared for abandoned infants is if abuse has been discovered or some other similar flag has been raised.

So, given this information, it's likely that the infant was either abused or the child could have been a product of a home birth and officials want to make sure the mom gets needed medical care. Anyone can drop a child off with the New Jersey child haven law, so it's anyone's guess as to who abandoned this infant.

Isn't this contradictory to what the law was intended for? Why are they searching for the mother when clearly the law was set up and stations placed where a mother can give her child up with no questions asked? What is the point in having to find the mother? Now posting the child's photo and hoping to have baby ID'd is going to put fear of others in doing the same. This was put together (Safe Haven Law) so that "no questions asked" and a baby could be given up for care and adoption as opposed to infanticide.

Chelsea, do you know if this child was reported as being abused? My concern is the many more teenage mothers (or otherwise) who now may fear the Safe Haven law and will instead murder their infants to avoid being identified as a female who gave birth. To the best of my knowledge there is an exception to the Safe Haven Law and that would be if the baby has been abused. In that case they will want to find out what happened, however, with that said...IF the child was abused....the Safe Haven has a responsibility to put that in the alert or media reporting. As far as I have learned, that is not the case. If you know otherwise, please advise. Thank you.

I wish the Police would put a valid reason for this to transpire. They are going to create a lot of problems. I am going to write them. I found a few opinions on this very child elsewhere and it is worth some thought. What if the baby was dropped off by a male? Did any article actually say a female dropped the child off? So much to learn before we can clearly understand and the PD has a responsibility to be a little more open with the " WHYS " that they are doing things this way. Just my opinion.
