As we enter the new year my thoughts focus so much on Gather Members. Like any group there are always members who will disappoint. It is easy to focus on the negative but if we do we most assuredly miss out in the many talented heroes who are fellow members of Gather.
Last year a friend of mine and a friend of many others at Gather Jan S. went through a major surgery and I wrote a post about her. In it I expressed how sad it is that too often for many wonderful people we wait until after they are gone and usually at their funeral to express how much they meant to us. I was not willing to wait to express at least a little bit about what a grand lady she is and how much her support and kindness meant to me. I believe that what I wrote about her then is even more true now. One thing I expressed then is that as I wrote about this wonderful lady it occurred to me that there were so many others I needed to express gratitude for and to share with others about what incredible people they are. I shared in my post that I wanted every so often from that point on to write a post about one of the many special people who are Gather members. When I finished writing about them I would start on non Gather members. Sadly I have not done another post like that until Thursday January 10th.
Recently two very wonderful friends have entered difficult periods of life for different reasons. I will use them as examples of people to write about and will write about them as I accept my own challenge at least twice. My good friend Nancy S is dealing with some medical issues that are very difficult to say the least. She is in for a hard fight and once again I am late to express how much she means to me and I think to a lot of us at Gather. She was a true hero even before she entered in to this stage of her life. She grows even more so. She is a caring supportive lady, a very valuable member of Gather and my good friend. Another of my friends has recently lost a young daughter. This is not her first child that she is grieving for and may not be her last Her name is Betty. She is a remarkable lady who has a huge heart. She reaches out where few are afraid to go. She is a hero in anyone's standards.
There are so many others that I or rather we can focus on including but not limited to Connie C, Stephen Berwaldt, Dottie, John Beck,Pam Brittain, Len Maxwell, Heather C, Larry H. and the list goes on and on.
I have not made any New Years resolutions nor will I because of the few times that I have made them I broke them before March, but I will however make a commitment to revisit this challenge at least every three months from here on in.
Your challenge for Thursday January 10, 2013 is to create a post about a special person or a hero who also is a member of Gather. Try and keep the focus on Gather members but if there is a special person who is not a Gather member you would like to write about it would be acceptable.
At a funeral I often wonder if the deceased person had even a small idea of how much they were loved before they died. This is an opportunity to assure that at least some of our talented wonderful friends at Gather know a little of how you feel about them.
Please keep in mind the guidelines that we need to follow each week . One guideline to remember is to include the words Special People 1/13/2013 somewhere in the title.
Another guideline is to be sure to tag it with Thurs or Thursday Writing Essentials, Thursday Gather Writing Essential, Memories Don't forget to Post your post to Gather Writing Essential.
Another guideline is to not forget that there is a limit of three submissions from each member per day. If you’re extremely prolific, spread out your work and post only three submissions per day.
One last guideline is to please remember not to submit any response until Thursday actually happens (No earlier than 12:01 AM).
** Again I still have not reached a point where my plate is clear enough to be able to post a list of the responses to Thursday's Challenge. It is still my intent to to finally do that ASAP but it won't be this week either. I am very sorry.
***Any post submitted after Thursday will be accepted throughout the week as usual.
