Kristen Stewart played a huge role in Robert Pattinson being cast as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga series of films. It seems casting came down to two choices for the role--Rob and Sam Robertson, and the rest--as they say--is history.
According to a report from Entertainmentwise, Sam Robertson came close to being the star of films like Twilight and Breaking Dawn Part 2. Kristen Stewart likely blew it for him.
"I was in L
A for a while and got all the way through to the auditions. I got down to the last two - it was just me and R-Patz," he explains.
Sam has had some small successes since he lost the Edward Cullen role. He appeared in Coronation Street and Beaver Falls. They do pale in comparison, however, to films like Eclipse and New Moon.
"I didn't actually realize it was going to become what it did become. These things happen, but it would have been nice," he says, admitting that the disappointment hasn't completely gone away.
When it finally came down to Sam vs. Rob, the final decision was made after a meeting at director Catherine Hardwicke's house.
"I went to do a meeting at Catherine's house in Venice... . I read with Kristen for four hours, as well, or, like, three hours, or something," Pattinson says. "I don't know what it was about. Lots of...prancing."
Robert Pattinson obviously won out over Sam Robertson and knows full well Kristen played a huge role in the decision. Fortunately Sam Robertson doesn't harbor resentment. Disappointment is normal, however, especially when he sees how Rob's popularity has soared.
Do you think Sam Robertson would have held a candle to Rob's Edward Cullen? Would he have had the on screen chemistry with Bella Swan that Rob so clearly had?
