| DOYLE RICE - USA TODAY |
| It's official: 2012 marked the warmest year on record for the USA, scientists from the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., announced Tuesday. The past year smashed the previous record for the warmest year, which was 1998. The average temperature for 2012 was 55.3 degrees, 3.2 degrees above the 20th-century average, and 1 degree above 1998. U.S. weather records date to 1895. "We had the warmest spring on record, the warmest July on record, and the third-warmest summer on record," said Deke Arndt, chief of the climate monitoring branch of the climate center, late last year. Every state had a warmer-than-average year. A total of 19 states, stretching from Utah to Massachusetts, had record warmth in 2012 and an additional 26 states had a Top 10 warm year. "These records do not occur like this in an unchanging climate," said Kevin Trenberth, head of ... |

Yes, the same one, you will excuse me if I don't listen to someone who seems to say its a travesty that the world is not warming.
What this man did was to send a sneaky Email to a sneaky English climate scientist and bemoan the fact the world was not warming, a sort of dang it all boys I can see the money drying up so listen better keep it to ourselves for the moment until we can think of something else.
Oh and by the way our MET Office have now come out rather sneakily after first coming out in saying the planet has not warmed then getting a bit of flack from the minders so back tracking and saying we did not actually mean what we said. have come out on Christmas Eve when they thought no one was looking and said, "wait for it John wait for it lad" it was true what we first stated there has been no warming. Sneaky little blighters these warmegedinists, if they cant play dirty they don't want to play at all!!!!
Graham L.
I find this Interesting.
After 3 years and dozens of times having your blatant falsehood corrected, there really is no excuse for your continued massive ignorance.
Kevin Trenberth on what he meant.
The denialist industry took a line out of context and created a false story that is completely divorced from fact, reality, or even logic. In short, they lied about it. Shocker.
Which of course Graham knows but continues to repeat the lie over and over. There is a word for that sort of behavior.
Meanwhile, once again you cannot even begin to address the actual topic of the article presented. FAP.
Do not address me.
Clarke, due to the lack of moderation I will not comment on your post further.
"Without a careful explanation about what it means, this drive for consensus can leave the IPCC vulnerable to outside criticism. Claims such as ‘2,500 of the world’s leading scientists have reached a consensus that human activities are having a significant influence on the climate’ are disingenuous. That particular consensus judgment, as are many others in the IPCC reports, is reached by only a few dozen experts in the specific field of detection and attribution studies; other IPCC authors are experts in other fields."
He didn't say that was not true, did he? I see no reason not to bring this to people's attention. It was the "consensus" of a small group dedicated to that particular field if study. Other specialties don't deal with what effects changes in atmospheric composition might have had on global temps, it would not be logical to have them weigh in on the matter.
There's no freaking way an honest scientist would have made that statement, as far as I'm concerned, it's pure propaganda.
Hey John here is a thought perhaps we actually don't exist and our ancestors thoughts have some how lived on in some sort of twilight world long after the earth was scorched into nothing after it was a lot warmer as it was long ago.
Oh and John I do with you would get with it old boy!! don't you know that its not CO2 anymore its methane. There I go again being sarcastic, they do say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit if that is so I can live with it.
: )
As noted by Christopher Burt in the article, 2012 saw "362 all-time record-high temperatures set across the nation, and zero all-time record lows."
That is a huge deal.
The planet continues to warm, and it is both disgraceful and irresponsible that the denialists are holding back American (and British) innovation with their constant stream of pathologically willful ignorance and intentional deceit.
The fact that the amateur denialists seem willing to continuously embarrass themselves with their ignorance is beyond laughable, it's pathetic.
