Former Fifty Shades of Grey movie front runner Emma Watson was recently detained by authorities at JFK International airport for being an unaccompanied minor. That's right. The cops thought the Harry Potter star was a little kid. Even more embarrassing was the fact that according to Emma, it wasn't the first time she's been mistaken for a child. Ouch.
Yes, believe it or not, the airport security guys not only failed to recognize the Perks of Being a Wallflower star, they thought she was a minor child possibly running away from home, or at the very least trying to board a flight without benefit of adult supervision. So, they stopped her and gave her the third degree. Imagine their shock and embarrassment when they learned she was not only twenty-two years old, a college student trying to get back to her university, and, last but certainly not least, an uber rich and famous international celebrity.
Ever the trooper, Emma took it all in stride. In fact, she blamed the whole incident on the backpack she was carrying. A backpack. Seriously? Why? Was it sporting a Disney logo? Or maybe Sesame Street?
Whatever.
Later, La Watson posted a message to her fans on Twitter about her bizarre brush with the law.
"Passport control: 'unaccompanied minor?' Me:'sorry?' Passport control: 'where is ur guardian?' Me:'I'm 22!!!!!!!' #neverwearingabackpackagain," Watson wrote.
Later, she added, "The really sad thing is that this is not the first time this has happened."
Poor Emma Watson. Although the security guys obviously let her pass when they saw her date of birth on her passport, this embarrassing incident certainly won't help her win the role of Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey. La Steele was supposed to be a clueless virgin and all, but a minor child? That's just creepy.
