A Fairytale Christmas Story


Once upon a time, far from the land of BB guns, there was me, Rutherford B. Hasenpheffer, and like all boys (aged 6-12) I had a Christmas wish. I wanted a dragon (yes, you heard me, a dragon), one legendary, fire-breathing, winged lizard.

I badgered my parents night and day for a year, following them around the castle, begging for a dragon. “No,” they said. Repeatedly. Consistently. But I persisted, until somewhere around November they relented. So I found a baby dragon under the Christmas tree.

The only problem, the darn beast burned down the castle and now we’re homeless.

 

 

The Prompt:

You are a young boy, between 6 and 12. Yes you are. Don't argue. What's most important to you? I'm reminded of:
"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue

That was a very "warm" way to say "be careful what you wish for."

Hope that winter wasn't too cold. Wait, what am I saying? The baby dragon would keep everyone toasty!

There was no "puffing" involved of any kind. Perhaps some choking and smoke inhalation during the castle fire, but no "puffing".

Persistence will always win out. What is stronger than a whiny kid screaming repeatedly, "But why can't I have it?" The, "Because I said so," argument cannot withstand a continuous assault.
