so obviously this is depressing stuff, a 16 year old girl gotten so drunk that she blacks out, only to be dragged around as a sex toy for high school football stars. But there is the added question- with some of the cellphone pictures deleted by young people who got nervous the following day, is Wikileaks right to get involved by trying to recover the missing evidence?

Teanage testosterone, peer pressure and alcohol are a dangerous combination. School response needed to have been immediate and profound to change the mentality that allowed this moral lapse. I can understand the shame that inspired those that failed to stop this travesty to delete all record, as they tried to erase it from their own memory, but they deserve to confront the lesson in a less public forum, and pay a pennance that does not destroy their ability to make a positive difference in the future. Yes, they need to face their cowardice. But if persecuted, they will learn denial and revenge, not humility and redemption.
I agree that moral response and legal response do not have to be identical.
Because the legal channells there are so enveloped in corruption, and Big Red is such a huge money-maker for the area. Without Public Opinion, no one would ever know about it - the boys are still not in jail.
There is no excuse valid in the world for the act - or tha laughing hyenas celebrating it later.
Shame should cause them to do the right thing and step forward.
I also dealt with tenen testosterone, alchohol and peer pressure - but would NEVER have carried an unconscious teen from one party to the next to be gang raped repeatedly.
Shame on you for offering ANY justification for these animals.

I grew up in that area, and know the locale, the mentality, and the depths of judicial manipulation.
The story is even worse.
There was also a video posted to Youtube of local youths laughing hysterically and making jokes about this animalistic, degenerate, obnoxious, disgusting display - the act itself being closely matchin in repulsiveness by the video.
Yours is only the second post I have found on Gather about this outrageous act of having no respect for themselves of others in fully sociopathic displays.
Untill KnightSec (a hacker group) and Anonymous got involved and the video went viral - it was never mentioned on the news at all (it happened in August).
Again, Thank you for this post - light needs to be shed.
