Â
It happened yesterday during my 30 hours without cable TV or Internet. Â I decided to work on my 'little ole lady spy' story. Â I needed to get Irene and Jordan out of Paris. Â Irene was getting more and more tense--unsure of whom she could trust, especially Jordan, who claimed to be watching out for her. Â Was she becoming paranoid?
Â
When I last was writing the story, Irene had finally checked into the Paris Hotel. She was surprised to see Jordan there. Â He was in London earlier in the morning when she left for Paris. Â How had he gotten there ahead of her?
Â
I pulled up the word document, edited some of chapter I'd written and moved Irene into another situation.  I had a few interruptions while writing but nothing of any length.  A friend called to ask me what I was doing and if I had my cable back.  I told her no cable and I was working on getting Irene and Jordan situated in Paris.  She said bye, I clicked the end button on my cell and went back to Paris with Irene, Jordan and some of the other spies.  That's when it happened.
Â
My cell phone is set to tell me who is calling or texting. Â I heard the voice but didn't quite understand what it said. Going over to where it was being charged, I looked at the readout and couldn't understand it either...it was in French! Â WHAT? Â FRENCH? Â I am telling you the honest to goodness truth. Â Fortunately when I clicked to read the message, it was in English but every other writing on the cell was in French.
Â
I called my 'go to when I don't know something or can't figure out what to do' daughter and was excitedly telling her about being in Paris, so to speak, with my characters and how my cell phone was suddenly in French mode, not English. Â Now you have to admit, that is bizarre. Â I swear I never touched anything on the phone but 'end' when I hung up talking to my friend.
Â
My daughter said something about my changing it and I laughed. Â "I can't change it, everything is in French and I don't speak French." I was laughing. "Maybe I can push some buttons and find something that says English."
Â
She suggested I not do that since I could mess the phone up even more.  She also suggested I get the instruction manual or, when the Internet is back up running,  pull up the info about the phone.
Â
I decided to wait until I got Internet again and went back to Paris with Irene and Jordan. Â The writing is going well. Â Suspense is getting a little thicker. Â Jordan is getting frustrated that Irene seems to be pulling away from him. Â How could he keep an eye on her, as he'd been instructed by his superiors at the agency, if she distanced herself from him? Â He was also finding himself become more attracted to her.
Â
I get Irene checked into her Paris hotel and up to her room, when my cell phone announces in that French mode that I have a call from an old High School friend, whom I had been playing voice msg tag with since Christmas Day. (Well it didn't tell me all that, just his name).  I swear this is also true, the friend calling had spent two years in Europe after getting out of the military!!!!! The two years were in PARIS.
Â
I related my story writing, cell phone in French, story to him and said, "I would have freaked out if you had wished me Happy New Year in French." Â We laughed and continued with a very joyful 45 minute chat.
Â
Don't you think that is all very bizarre?  My story is in Paris, my phone is in French mode, and my friend who called had once lived in Paris!  I think it's more than coincidence...more like synchronicity--the experience of two or more events that are apparently causally unrelated or unlikely to occur together by chance, yet are experienced as occurring together in a meaningful manner.
I can't figure out what the 'meaningful manner' was about but I sincerely believe there is some meaningful reason the three events occurred.
#1 - I'm writing a story taking place in Paris
#2 - My cell phone automatically goes into French
#3 - A friend I haven't spoken to in over a year calls, a friend who had lived in Paris.
Anyway--later with my 10 year old grandson was with me and I was showing him the different parts of the cell in French.  We pushed a few buttons, like where I knew 'settings' was, and also 'tools'.  Somehow I tapped a button with a lot of French words in a vertical row and down near the bottom was 'langue', I think that's how it was spelled.  We clicked on it, saw 'français', followed by 'English'.
Got my cell phone back to English, the Cable TV and Internet were fixed. Â I got Irene out of one situation and into another. Â This time Jordan pushes her into a chauffeurdriven car. Â That's where it ended yesterday. Â I wonder why he did that?
