Happy New Year!!! I hope all of you had a safe and fun time last night. It was quiet here, as it was just me and Lily. I've been thinking about Angela's 16th birthday, which is in a couple of days. I just don't know what to do....
So....what are we celebrating.....
1). First Foot Day: The custom of firstfooting, or being the first to cross the threshold of a home in the early hours of New Year's Day, was so popular in England and Scotland during the 19th century that the streets were often more crowded between midnight and one o'clock in the morning than they would normally be at midday. If the "First Foot," traditionally a man, was to bring the family luck, he had to arrive with his arms full of cakes, bread, and cheese for everyone to share. He should be dark-haired, not fair, and must not have flat feet. Okay....
2). Ellis Island Day: On January 1, 1892, Ellis Island opened as the first Federal immigration station in the US. The first immigrant to pass through Ellis Island was Annie Moore, a 15-year-old girl from Cork, Ireland, who arrived on the ship Nevada on January 1, 1892. Did you know Ellis Island has been closed since Hurricane Sandy, back in October?
3). Z Day: Oh, you're going to love this one. Whether you believe a coming zombie outbreak is science or science fiction, enough attention to the subject has warranted January 1 to be declared Z Day each year. Yup....January 1st is Zombie Day. Z Day serves not only as a day of awareness about the imminent zombie outbreak that is to occur, zombie enthusiasts claim, but as a day for families, companies and government agencies to prepare for the outbreak and to learn how to survive a zombie outbreak. Personally I thought it just meant enough people are looking like zombies after too much drinking last night....
4). Polar Bear Plunge Day: NOT ME! Thousands of people around the world will take the plunge in to icy cold water to benefit a charity. Today is the day for the annual polar bear swims....brrr.
5). New Year's Dishonor List Day: The Unicorn Hunters is a group of people that decide which words and phrases are dishonorable to the English language, and every year on New Year's Dishonor List Day, they release a list of words/phrases that they've decided should be deleted from the English language. Why would anyone waste their entire year deciding what words are dishonorable? Don't they have anything better to do? Each to their own I guess.
I know there are more holidays out there being celebrated today, but 5 is my limit for New Years. If you know of any more, then just post them below. And yes, I do know the Rose Bowl parade is today......I hope to see at least part of it.
I hope all of you have a wonderful 2013.....

How did you take your 15 yr old being pregnant? My 20 yr old cousin just had her 2nd baby in 18 months....she's living with her grandparents....and needs a clue.
Gee, you know everyone John....wow.
Other people's kids growing up is really making me start to feel old... and I don't even have one of my own yet. I can only imagine that will accelerate the aging process...
