Did anyone hear Gather is sold?

Did anyone hear Gather is sold? A friend told me that Gather and Skyword are splitting and Gather is under new ownership. Supposedly, Gather is going all new in January, and I am happy about that, but I wanted to know what you know.

Have you heard any rumors? My source said they got the news in an email, but I did not.

I heard that they were makingj change in Janurary not that they were selling out..

I don't think there are that many ads. Even still, the site is not as user friendly as it needs to be.

Wow, sounds as if Tom is making some money off of his brain-child (Gather and Skyword). Good for him (business is business). I hope the site doesn't close because I love Gather.

I would be lost without Gather. I don't do Facebook much, but this site has become quite important to me.

Nope, I just saw the disclaimer at the top of the pages about new membership being closed due to a spamming problem.....I hope Gather continues and I wish they would resume giving points in a less miserly fashion! Merry Christmas too ALL!

Susan its making me think now that I have heard these rumors of Gather splitting or closing that the membership being closed to try and stop spamming problems is just a ruse to stop people joining a soon to be closed site because I would imagine that if they wanted to stop spam they could do it without shutting out people. I hadn't heard that, but my mind is now putting this together with the recent survey they did. The last business news I recall about Gather was some months ago, and that Cox Communications(Entertainment... whatever..?) had invested in it, some $5 million bucks comes to mind, and as part of that agreement garnered a new seat on "The Board"....?

Its hard to tell... I wonder if Chuck knows anything... There is no use in hiding it... We are not employees, why would be go anywhere if this is a reason for keeping it a secret..

All I know about it Chuck's post about removing members who are spamming and not taking in any more new members.
If they are indeed selling, or have sold, gather, it would be nice if they let us know and give us some clue as to what will happen to us members (other than the 1 I know of for sure who had her account removed)

I heard about policy changes about spammers. As they were costing the company money. But nothing else.

That fits with what Chuck said in his recent post about Gather now having "resources it has not had for years." (That's a paraphrase). I hope it's true.

I heard rumors too yet untill we get an officall thing from Gather I am not relaying on rumors,, if it happens and good comes out of it then great if not some one some how will complain
