In early November, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian arrived in London to promote the Kardashian Kollection at a British department store. But not even two months later, sales of their clothing are so bad that prices have been slashed—and Kate Middleton's refusal to wear anything from the line is being cited as part of the problem.
"All of the clothes are just sitting on the racks, taking up space. No one is buying them, and it's such a pitiful sight. The store just wants to clear them out so they can be replaced with items that actually sell," a "source" tells The National Enquirer (via Celeb Dirty Laundry), adding that the only Kardashian Kollection items that are selling well are the purses, because they don't have giant logos. "You can't tell the Kardashians actually designed them. Customers tend to be less embarrassed to buy them. Everything else screams Kim, Khloe and Kourtney—and no one is willing to pay top dollar to look like clones of these girls."
That's the real problem: The Kardashians' style is tacky. Everything is skin-tight and has sequins or leopard print. In fact, Kim's style is so unflattering, it's making people think she's pregnant. A lot of women don't want to dress like that. So even if Duchess Kate had worn something from the Kardashian Kollection, chances are good it would have only had a sales impact on that particular item while sales of the entire line would still be pretty bad. And their sales are bad in the States too, with Bebe discontinuing their collaboration last year and Sears reportedly considering dropping the Kollection as well. So it's not fair to assume that "excitement for the brand fell" in the U.K. after Duchess Kate's rejection. Most women just don't want to look like hookers from the '80s.
