Feeling Overwhelmed

I just read a magazine article that said those are some of the problems with tablets! I hope you find a job soon!

I do know the feeling. I wish someone would call my son about a job....he needs one desperately.

My money sites have cut back on points so it's harder then ever to make payout. I hope things improve for all of us.

Sometimes sharing with others makes things better.

Flash will work on some tablets, not others. The rule for buying is, if you just need to consume, tablets are ok. If you need to generate or create, it is better to have a desktop or laptop.

It might be worth seeing if someone who knows what they are doing can help you clean up your current laptop/desktops. I don't mean downloading the "we will fix it" stuff you see advertised on the web which usually makes things worse (and nothing is free -- even the legit ones will charge you to "fix" what they "found" for free). I mean getting someone who will help you delete unneeded programs, remove unused toolbars and other add-ons, cull your application startups so only what needs to be running is launched, etc. Every machine gets bogged down because of the "bonuses" we receive from updates, applications we load, etc unless you are saavy enough to deselect them ... and it is often a treasure hunt to find and do that before they install.

I don't know what tablet you got, but you might look to see if there is a Flash add-on or alternative you can load. There is for many Androids. If you have an iPad, there is an alternative browser for it called "Puffin" (see the AppStore) that allows Flash to process on the originating site so you can see it.

I suspect it works better from some sites than others. Let us know how "universal" it is. I work on iPads but don't use one often enough to have a good pictue on how well it works for this problem.

Thanks! My desktop is over 10 years old and I know it needs a lot of work! My laptop is only two years old, but it's driving me crazy! I have a brother in law who is really good with computers, but he won't be able to visit for a while. I got an Asus (Android) tablet. I think I am going to return it. I think I might get a Kindle Fire. I've been reading that their new browser called Silk is really good.

I have a tablet that was given to me from work, I wouldn't use it as my main means of computing though. I have a laptop and when I travel this week I am taking the tablet even though I cant do everything on it because if I were to have the laptop stolen or messed up I would be screwed and the same is not so for the tablet.

I did get a bluetooth keyboard for my tablet that has a whole holder case with a stand so that I can type better than the whole tapping on the screen bit. It has worked well for me while on the road or in meetings.

I wanted the tablet for traveling too. I would like to get a keyboard at some point if I end up keeping it.

So sorry your having so much trouble, I hope things start getting better for you soon.

If you want to get an inexpensive laptop, I bought an ASUS and have had no problem with it.

Yes, a laptop is much better to use than a tablet.

When I feel overwhelmed like this, I mentally put all the problems in a locked box and take myself out for some fun. It can be window shopping, a bike ride, lunch in a restaurant... anything that takes me away to refocus. Inevitably, when I return to the "box of problems" they look a lot smaller and some are even gone. I rarely even open the box. Be good to yourself!

A great attitude Jan. Funny you mentioned a locked box. That is how I have dealt with my pain over Dustin when it gets unbearable. I put it (in my mind) on a shelf. It's still there but it allows my mind to take a break.

I can certainly relate! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt to prove it. LOL. I can tell you what I did; I don't know if it will work in your situation but it may be a springboard for you to find an idea that will lead to a solution. I wanted to start an online shop but had less than $0. I belong to a couple of online panels that award points toward gift cards. The most useful one for me was amazon.com. So, I posted on Gather, worked on these sites to earn points and put together enough gift cards to purchase the materials I needed for constructing things and for home office supplies (envelopes, printer cartridges, etc). I found a site that offers "shops" for no money (Etsy, which I love, btw) and fees are paid after sales, researched what I needed to know to set up a small business, which also didn't cost anything (much to my surprise), and set to work. So I turned my hobby and interests into something that actually brings in a little money. I'm not to the point of supporting us completely, but I have built up the business a little at a time, learned by trial and error and by the shared experiences of others, and we're turning a small profit. So from absolutely nothing, I've made a thriving shop that pays a few of the bills and continues to grow. Hope that will give you an idea or two. Good luck and just do what works for you.
