Angus T. Jones blasted his hit show "Two and a Half Men" as "filth" and asked people not to watch it.
Fox News reports that Jones said, in part:
"If you watch 'Two and a Half Men', please stop watching it and filling your head with filth. People say it's just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you'll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch."
Although Miley Cyrus responded to Jones' take on the show's sleazy content with "shock," she still respects his beliefs. A source close to Miley Cyrus, who has played Jones' love interest on the hit show, said that she had "the time of her life" working with Jones, but like "everyone else," she was "shocked" over his comments. The source continued to say that Miley, 20, is "hopeful" that Angus "will work things out with the cast and crew," as reported by the WinnipegFreePress.
The Parent's Television Council has rated this show, "red," their worst rating, and stated in part, "Far worse than the frequent use of foul language is the constant barrage of sexual scenes and jokes." Children who are exposed to shows with high sexual content are more likely to engage in sexual activity at an early age.
A study published in the journal, Pediatrics, found "increasing evidence that youth exposure to sexual content on television shapes sexual attitudes and behavior in a manner that may influence reproductive health outcomes," and further "exposure to sexual content on television predicted teen pregnancy, with adjustment for all covariates." Several other studies in the same journal found similar results, as one found that "exposure to sexual content in music, movies, television, and magazines accelerates white adolescents' sexual activity and increases their risk of engaging in early sexual intercourse." And yet another study claimed that "watching sex on TV predicts and may hasten adolescent sexual initiation."
Some of Angus T. Jones comments can be seen here (around 7:40):
Culture matters. This is why a revolution is needed...of the mind.
In America, oftentimes people have no idea how much impact the mainstream media has on the planet. There are posters on the side of buildings in New Zealand that tout the "Jersey Shore" as "America's Number One TV Show." -- they watch the Kardashians and Jerry Springer and "16 & Pregnant."
There is a new level of disrespect for families, religion and culture. And the public, just like in America, lap it up and no longer bother to celebrate "excellence," "respect," "integrity," "honor," "critical thinking"... there needs to be a shift in American culture, because it impacts the world.
