My daughter keeps the temp at 64. That's winter for a Floridian.

64 is too cold. I agree. I keep my house at 72 in the winter. 78 in the summer.

Oh, so that's where the snow went. Weatherman kept saying last night the commute was going to be snowy in the AM but not a flake have I seen. Guess it wanted to be closer to the ocean.

Tell your daughter to bump the thermostat up to 68, at least!

Oh, I relate, David . . . I love me a New York Steak . . . and I immigrated to Australia from the constant gray skies and freezing cold in Germany. Our Winter here sits mostly in the 60's.

I can certainly understand. I made a visit to South Dakota in what i believed was spring. I only took spring and summer clothing. Guess what? It snowed and I was out to the thrift shops looking for warmer clothing. Man did I ever get ready to come home in a hurry. I went to stay a month.. I came home in a week.. :)

Wow! That's a long time, when the weather's getting cold. My husband used to live in FL, and my step-son was born there. Hubby ways he used to take a pic of him in, or near the ocean on christmas day every year, and send it to his relatives in the snowy states! :)

RE: Vegetarian food. My sister is a vegetarian. We make vegetarian food for her, and meat for the rest of us. Can't your daughter arrange meat for you?

In actuality they say I can bring in food as long as I don't cook it there. However, out of respect for them I do not. If I need it, I go out.

My sister actually cooks meat for her husband!!!! I'm all for respect, but should it not be mutual? I hope there were places where you could go that you liked. Like I said, I know vegetarians, but they've never objected to meat being cooked in the house.

Oh my, I've been away for a while and wondered if your NJ family stayed safe in the Big One - I guess they did. I don't blame you for wanting to go home. It snowed here last week and my husband was wanting out the door then. We are heading to your state very soon and looking forward to warm weather and gulf and ocean views.

I"m headed in a few weeks to visit my dad in a nursing home in Florida. I guess it's a matter of perspective, but I know he'd be delighted to see some snow outside his window.
