When The X Factor USA 2012 resumed on November 7 with a second live show, series creator Simon Cowell jolted viewers with the biggest shock of the season to date by revealing that a previously eliminated contestant had rejoined the competition as a wild card competitor. But which of the four talented acts who got the boot last week was given another shot at the $5 million prize? And why?
The nod went to 13-year-old Diamond White, the bubbly, cute-as-a-button hopeful from Los Angeles. She was axed by Teens mentor Britney Spears during last week's results show following a sudden death sing-off with Arin Ray, the sole male on Spears's team. Cowell was critical of Spears's decision, declaring that he didn't think either of the two teens should've been in danger in the first place.
During tonight's broadcast, he called White's elimination "a mistake," and reinstated the teen into the competition as part of the newly-expanded Top 13. She took to Twitter with the good news, happily tweeting followers, "Hey guys!!!!! It official I'm the wild card!!!" shortly after taking the stage to perform live.
Given the depth of the talent pool this season, it's absolutely appropriate that someone was given a second chance. And the super sweet White was a great choice for the honor. Her consistently good attitude makes her a great role model for kids, and she could go far in the competition. And if history is any indication--season one wild card Melanie Amaro won the whole competition--she's in great shape moving forward.
