On DWTS for the performance show of the all-stars season this week, Kirstie Alley had a hard time. At halfway through the competition, all participants are tired, but this veteran actress seemed even more tired and in more pain than perhaps most or all of the rest of the clan.
Essentially, Alley told Maks, her intrepid partner for the second time on this hit ABC talent show, that she had had it when he tried to push her into being more energetic during rehearsals. She said she's 60 and she's exhausted. Alley does a lot as she's an active parent and a businesswoman in addition to being a dancer on Dancing with the Stars this time out.
But never fear. Despite the complaining and the tears and the agony, Kirstie Alley loves her time on the floor boards. She is a fighter and she pushes through practice to deliver an extremely entertaining rumba with Maks Chmerkovskiy during country week that had the two dancing the rumba to the strains of the Michael Buble/Blake Shelton hit called Home.
And these two felt at home on the dance floor, the place where they first performed when Kirstie was partnered with Maks two years ago. Ever since then, these hoofers have had chemistry and a certain caring for each other that shows when it's time to give it their all for the judges, the crowd in the studio, and the folks back home watching on their small screens.
Moving across the boards while smoke encircled this enchanting couple, Maks wore a Western shirt that contrasted with Kirstie who looked like a professional rumba dancer in her glittery get-up. The performance was a real hit, at least with the judges. In fact, Carrie Ann Inaba called Kirstie "the queen of sexy" for her performance and was so happy that this famous thespian was able to really let go and just dance. Inaba called out her movements, saying they were exquisite.
Meanwhile, DWTS arbiter Len Goodman thought that Maks and Kirstie pulled off a Latin dance that was "clean, clear and classy." His alliteration wasn't the only praise bestowed on this hardworking couple for the British judge also thought the pair were "super sexy" during their dance. Always picky, Len did mention he would have liked to have seen more hip action instead of just the kind of hip action "everyone can do." To be sure this perceived put-down was understood, the head arbiter of DWTS stood up to show what he was talking about much to the dismay of all of the people who were there in the ballroom to cheer on Alley and her main man.
As for what Bruno Tonioli thought? Well, this often gushing arbiter was thrilled. He was especially enthusiastic about Kirstie's solo portion of the routine. He also said that what he saw was the artistic performance of a "real woman." The Italian judge called Kirstie both "classy" and "elegant" and really appreciated her "expressive" arms.
So how did these critiques add up when it came to the actual scoring of Kirstie and Maks' rumba? The dynamic duo earned a total of 27.5 out of a possible 30, the highest numbers these two have received all evening.
So, will DWTS welcome back Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy next week after the elimination show this evening? Will this pair get to dance again on this all-stars season of Dancing with the Stars after the results come in from the voting public? Only time will tell but if you are willing to guess please weigh in below.
