When DWTS All-Stars 2012 resumes October 29 on ABC, most of the remaining eight couples will get into a lighthearted groove for the hit reality show's boot-scootin' Country Week. But it'll be far from an amusing evening for Olympian Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnoff, who've planned an emotional Viennese Waltz to the tune of Rascal Flatts' "Skin," a song which chronicles the experience of a young girl struggling with the side effects of cancer treatment.
Ohno wrote about the upcoming performance in his October 28 People blog. The speedskater explained that the stresses associated with competing had come between himself and Smirnoff, resulting in a negative impact on their connection last week. He went on to say that they'd cleared the air and had a good time together, and that he's ready to show an emotional side of himself that he doesn't usually put on display.
Without going into detail, he shared that the "song has a personal connection to both Karina and me," and that he's invited children from City of Hope who have undergone treatment to watch the show.
If they can nail the emotion of the number, the dance will absolutely be a tearjerker, and the most memorable routine of the night. It's certainly a tall order, but not out of reach for the talented pair.
DWTS All-Stars 2012 airs Monday night at 8 PM ET/PT.
