Donald Trump's Obama announcement has done just what the Donald hoped it would - it has people talking about him again.
The star of The Apprentice is willing to do whatever it takes to get Barack Obama fired, including supporting the birther cause and threatening to run for president himself. Because he's so insistent that President Obama wasn't born in America, most people probably immediately assumed that the big announcement that he's making today will have something to do with Obama's birth.
However, according to the Daily Mail, investor
Douglas Kass tried to steal some of Trump's thunder by revealing his October surprise yesterday. Here's what he tweeted about it:
"High above the Alps my Gnome has heard that Donald Trump will announce that he has unearthed divorce papers between the Prez and his wife."
If this is Trump's Obama announcement, it's pretty pathetic. He claimed that his information would be "very big" and that it could potentially change the course of an extremely close presidential race. However, divorce has become such a common occurrence in America that it's hard to imagine many people caring that Michelle Obama and Barack Obama once considered calling it quits - Trump has gotten divorced twice himself.
This wouldn't be the first time the Obama divorce rumors have surfaced. In 2000, author Ed Klein claimed that Michelle had divorce papers prepared after being "disgusted" with her husband's failed attempt at winning a House seat in Chicago. Perhaps Trump is going to present whatever "evidence" he has along with this stale story to push the narrative that Michelle Obama is an angry black woman -- some right wingers love to hate this imaginary version of the First Lady as a tired old stereotype.
However, it's really hard to see what any of this has to do with the race for the presidency. Even if the Obamas did experience marital problems, they cared enough about each other to work things out. Many Republicans like to crow about being the "family values" party, but wouldn't actually managing to save his marriage show that Obama really values his family?
If Trump does try to drag the Obamas' marriage through the mud, it probably won't help Mitt Romney - according to the press, Americans only care about the economy. So what's the point of bringing up this divorce story?
If Trump has hard evidence, it's possible that he could slightly harm Obama - the White House has denied the divorce rumors in the past, so the existence of divorce papers would make Obama look like a liar.
However, it's more likely that the Donald has just been feeling a little publicity deprived now that Romney, Obama, and Honey Boo Boo are dominating the headlines. He's even had to resort to getting press by tweeting relationship advice to Kristen Stewart and Katy Perry.
It's possible that the blowhard's big announcement will be something completely different. He could claim that Obama is having an affair with Beyonce or that he has seen a secret video of the president smoking weed with Jay-Z. If he has no evidence to support the claim he makes, then his big reveal is going to be just as ridiculous as the birther movement.
So do you think that Trump's October surprise will help Obama get fired, or it will it make the bird-haired, birdbrained billionaire look like an even bigger joke that he already does?

Yeah. Credibility = zero.
How did political discussion ever regress to such rampant hyperbole....?

Very silly stuff indeed, and you're right, it won't happen.
Oh, you didn't have one? Sorry.
Many complain about Romney's connections to Wall Street without ever checking the Obama administration's connections to Wall Street.
However, many of both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama's advisors came from Wall Street too.
Waldo, where are you? Oh, here you are:
The point is that there doesn't seem to be room for complaints on one side. We can play the Waldo game more often if it helps you.
I still don't see the point. Is this an argument in favour of supporting Obama? Is it an argument in favour of supporting Romney? Is it an argument in favour of Jill Stein and the Green Party?
If, as you claim, the right uses those terms interchangeably without understanding them with your superior understanding, as you seem to be wishing to imply that you possess, it would be impossible to counter claims to theirs by pointing out his Wall Street connections. Certainly, for instance, you're not going to be countering claims that he's a fascist that way, are you? Well, that is what you just said you do, whether you think it is or not, if indeed they make no distinctions.
"I still don't see the point. Is this an argument in favour of supporting Obama? Is it an argument in favour of supporting Romney? Is it an argument in favour of Jill Stein and the Green Party?"
I practically took your index finger and pointed straight to Waldo for you, Rory. I told you what the point of that comment was. If you want to know why the person who wrote that comment chose to make that point instead of one of the points you seem to prefer that he made instead, then there's your question to ask him. I can't answer why he chose to make that point instead of one of the ones you wanted or I would be happy to solve another Waldo puzzle for you too.
Paul Singer, Robert Mercer and Julian Robertson each donated $1 million to the Super Pac Restore Our Future, which can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money in support of Romney. They are the top donors to the group; two other wealthy donors, John Paulson and Edward Conard, were already reported to have given $1 million each as well.
It will cost an estimated 1 billion dollars to win the presidency this year. I think by now most of us realize you are not going to get a billion dollars simply from individuals sending in a couple bucks here and there.
Should read, "than he already is." I know it's off topic, but this is a SW post, so that means it gets edited. It also means the English language get butchered by the author, & gets a stamp of approval by the editor...hmmm!
