A teen accused of murdering a cab driver in October, 2011, heads to trial for capital murder. Police say Derrick Hunt, 19, shot John Dexter to death outside a neighborhood on Sunrise Pass, near Binz-Englemann for $19.

 

Testimony on Tuesday and Wednesday, revealed Hunt's fingerprints in the cab and footprints in the mud. The footprints matched the shoes worn by Hunt according to a fingerprint expert.

 

The defense rested it's case without calling a single witness.

 

Jury deliberations are underway. If convicted, Hunt faces life without parole.

Sad but being a taxi driver or pizza delivery person is dangerous. A few years ago someone called for pizza delivery, just to kill the person. A random killing of a stranger.. There are sick people out there. It so doesn't make sense. I agree with you and Mary.

I won't say the state, but I have a brother who delivers pizza until something better comes along. He travels armed. We are rapidly returning to the time when we are going to need to be like the old Wild West--everybody is armed. There would be a lot less killing if these people didn't know whether the people they were threatening were armed.
And what happened to Texas Justice? Life without parole? Uh uh. Sounds to me like this punk doesn't have a conscience. He won't feel guilty and reflect on what he did for the rest of his life. He will do what he has to to survive in prison, which will probably mean more killings. Am I bitter? No, just too closely in touch with reality. Sorry for taking up so much space.

Here in Texas, cab drivers aren't allowed to be armed. It doesn't make sense to me, though.

Yes, I wondered about that, too! Maybe, he made a plea bargain. Still, it doesn't excuse what he must have done. No worries about taking up so much space.

I asked my husband about this and he told me that cab drivers are allowed to carry weapons, but, if they need to go on base, they wouldn't be allowed to pick up or drop off because they have a weapon, so, many cab drivers don't arm themselves.

I agree with you. People kill people. Of course, you can't fire a gun, unless, there's someone pulling the trigger.

My personal feeling is that there is nothing positive that can be said about guns. They don't seem to fit in with all the advancements in modern society. Mankind's moral and spiritual side needs to catch up with his material side.

I know this isn't a popular idea, but if someone murders someone why should they be allowed to live? I am so tired of feeding, clothing and providing education to muderers, pedifiles and terrorists. They need to be euthanized.

Yep, the worst part is some young lawyer 40 years from now will feel sorry for that old man still in prison and let him out or, as is often the case, one is released for good behavior ..... k, this is gettin scary ......
