50 Shades of Grey movie favorite Ian Somerhalder has some tough competition from the likes of Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill, but there are a few reasons he might make the best Christian Grey.
Digital Spy has published a list of ten fun facts about The Vampire Diaries star, and one of the most interesting tidbits of trivia is that Ian and his brother own their own furniture shop and build their own pieces. So Ian certainly knows his way around a bed, and he'd probably be perfectly capable of building some of the crazy contraptions in Christian's Red Room of Pain.
The actor is also a philanthropist just like Christian Grey—Ian has done some amazing work for environmental charities.
Whoever gets cast in the 50 Shades of Grey movie is going to have to be extremely athletic because of the strenuous sex scenes that the movie calls for, and Ian Somerhalder has this aspect of the role covered—one of his favorite sports is yoga (all that stretching should come in handy).
Ian is also very cultured like Christian. The actor got to travel to Europe back when he was modeling for big fashion companies like Gucci and Ralph Lauren. As a former model, he knows how to keep his body in tip-top shape.
Ian seems to share Christian's love of sweet-looking brunettes, too—his girlfriend Nina Dobrev probably would have a good chance at winning the role of Anastasia Steele if she auditioned for it. It also helps Ian's chances that 50 Shades author E. L. James has fessed up to being a fan of The Vampire Diaries.
Ian has expressed an interest in playing Christian multiple times, but back in the summer he made sure to point out that he's not "desperate" to win the part. Perhaps he's working on hiding his emotions just like Christian—during earlier interviews he seemed much more enthusiastic about playing the sexy billionaire who can come off as being very cold and calculating.
So do you think that Ian has an advantage when it comes to winning the role of Christian Grey?
