The 50 Shades of Grey movie buzz marches on, and this time, the chatter is back in Ian Somerhalder's court. As the star of the hit television series, The Vampire Diaries, this hot actor seems to be a steamy no-brainer for the role of Christian Grey. Not that he doesn't have plenty of other hunky competition for the provocative part in other talked about actors the likes of Ryan Gosling, Henry Cavill, Alexander Skarsgard and Matt Bomer, among others. But Somerhalder may have received a little bonus plug from the book's author, E.L. James.
"I'm a big Vampire Diaries fan," she admitted recently on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, as WetPaint reports. James obviously has a thing for vampires; 50 Shades even had its origins in a fan fiction she wrote based on the characters in The Twilight Saga. So will her vampy love swing the pendulum in Somerhalder's favor? It also potentially puts True Blood's Skarsgard in good standing--plus, he has that Calvin Klein Encounter short film to bolster his chances. It's a shadowy, sexy piece that totally channels a Grey vibe.
The same bonus points may not be offered to Twilight's Edward Cullen, aka Robert Pattinson, who has the vampire ties, but apparently not the support of E.L. James. She is reportedly not interested in him. Likewise (or as a result), it's rumored that he couldn't care less about the project.
As for Ian Somerhalder's own take on 50 Shades of Grey, he's playing one cool customer. Last weekend, he made sure to walk a neutral line, while still projecting excitement about being in the mix to star as Christian Grey. He even has a strategy all worked out when it comes time for his possible audition. "I think that's going to be a very interesting story to tell," Somerhalder said. "I think whoever does that role, you should just really aim to make every studio executive in the room just as uncomfortable as possible." Take note Gosling, Cavill, Skarsgard and Bomer... Somerhalder may have just spilled one of his secrets.
