Our original plans had been to spend the week at Copper Canyon in Mexico which is suppose to be 3 times deeper then our own Canyon. We were going to combine that with a buying trip for Katie's shop. She sells baskets and shawls that they buy directly from the indians. Since our plans changed Jim still wanted to take us to Mexico. We got our passports and drove a little way from Bisbee to cross into the little town of Aqua Prieta.
Jim said it's just a border town and not pretty but we still enjoyed it and can say we've been to Mexico. Lol.

The town entrance.

A church across from the plaza.

The central plaza. Jim says it doesn't represent Mexico but it's not bad for a border town.

Jim and Naomi found some shade while I wandered around taking pictures.

We wandered in and out of a few shops and Naomi decided to try this odd chair out.

They had some pretty stuff but very pricey.

As you can tell it caters to the tourist.

A street vendor with flags and Mexican colors. Naomi bought a pretty blouse and I bought a set of animated birds for my daughter. I didn't get a picture of either one.

I've been checking into cruises to Mexico, but guess I need to first concentrate on Alaska before planning more.....LOL!!!!
I was reminded of a business conference I had in Cuernavaca, Mexico in 1996. The difference between residents and the elite was so evident. The conference was held at the Camino Real Sumiya Hotel, which was built by U.S. heiress and actress Barbara Woolworth Hutton as a residence in the 1950s. The grounds were splashed with a kabuki theater, lovely gardens, brooks, and fountains. One evening, we had a dinner at a restaurant where peacocks roamed the grounds.
Away from the hotel grounds, we saw people living in boxes. And the airport when I arrived was mobbed. People brought their whole families to meet someone at the airport.
