The mountains Jim wanted to drive through turned out to be the Mogollon Rim. This is the mountain range made famous in the western books of Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey. The mountain is covered with beautiful pine forests and we had a lovely ride until we reached the higher elevation. Oh it was still lovely, very lovely , we just didn't have time to view much because the road became a constant set of sharp curves. Up and down, right and left, the road did not have a single straight stretch for miles. In all the time we were driving we only met 2 other cars. We all had to take a break from the constant shifting so Jim found a small place to pull partly off the road. We found a break in the trees and grabbed a couple of pictures.

The forest was filled with flowers that were so much like the ones at home.

The last sign we passed said we were at 8000 ft. The air was thin but not uncomfortable.

We saw lots of evidence of the big fire in 2003.
I'm thrilled that I was actually in the place I had read so much about.
We arrived back in Bisbee about 10 pm tired but having thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days on the road. Jim said we had driven 1500 miles. Well worth every mile.
