Not only is The TODAY Show plummeting in the ratings, the show's co-anchor Matt Lauer's popularity is plummeting, too. Lauer was instrumental in Ann Curry's firing from her co-anchor position, and since then dirty secrets about his behavior has made its way to viewers.
According to a report from RadarOnline, as far as the very influential Q scores go, Matt's 'likability' has dropped 25 percent in the past year. It's likely a huge portion of that drop occurred during the entire Ann Curry debacle.
So what's a Q score? 'Q Scores are one of the most important factors companies use in deciding where to advertise, and the organization's analysis of Lauer mirrors an internal study done at NBC.' And with Matt's dipping so excessively, someone at NBC must be recognizing some red flags, right?
It raises a flag," executive vice president of Q Scores Henry Schafer says. "These morning shows are driven by personalities — so there's a real challenge out there for NBC News."
Lots of viewers dislike Lauer because of the role he played in getting Ann Curry fired. And a recent report indicates he's been less than kind to staffers at TODAY.
Matt supposedly acknowledges the drop in his popularity—or does he? His reaction sounds more sarcastic than one of genuine concern.
"Is it only 25 percent? Because it actually feels much worse," he said during a recent interview.
Do you think Matt Lauer has seen better days at NBC as co-anchor of The TODAY Show? Might his time there be limited at best?
