Marriage and family therapist Dr. Jane Greer points out that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's reconciliation sort of makes sense, and she bases her opinion on the reason behind his forgiveness of her transgressions.
According to a report from The Huffington Post, Dr. Greer says when someone has been cheated on—the way Rob was by Kristen—it's important to weigh a few odds regarding the relationship when opting to forgive or not to forgive.
The therapist also claims that sometimes the relationship's success in situations like Rob and Kristen's comes down to whether it's a man or a woman who A.) cheats, and B.) does the forgiving. Citing specific Hollywood cases, however, she admits there's no real benefit in it being male versus female, so the theory isn't one she subscribes to routinely.
Rob and Kristen took the time to weigh their odds carefully in light of her cheating on him with Rupert Sanders, her Snow White and the Huntsman director. She immediately apologized and continued to behave as though she meant what she said when apologizing. Dr. Greer claims if she had run out and partied with lots of men and hadn't kept a low profile, Rob might not have opted to forgive her.
In a like manner, Rob taking his time in observing whether or not Kristen's words mirrored her actions showed enormous self-control—the kind often needed to completely forgive someone for cheating. Had he jumped initially into saying they were done forever, or at forgiving her when she first apologized, it's far less likely their reconciliation would succeed.
Dr. Greer says the fact that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart seem to be in this relationship together—meaning both want it to work out and make it even better than before—that their chances for success are fairly high.
Do you think Rob and Kristen will make their renewed relationship work? Will it wind up being their 'happily ever after?'
