Saying Good-bye to Mylot

A friend of mine on mylot recommended Gather to me. I have to say that it was a good move on my part to listen to her. Thank you, Michele!

Well, after trying to maintain both Gather and mylot for a couple months, I have decided to stop mylot altogether. My decision was based on several things but mainly the format here is easier to work with than theirs and I am earning much quicker here.

I got tired of mylot constantly deleting posts and comments because they didn't fall within their "guidelines". I found it hypocritical that they would have a topic called "humor" yet forbade the posting of jokes! And they have a topic called "cooking" but we weren't allowed to post any recipes. This just does not make sense to me.

At any rate, I do have one or two friends there that I will miss but maybe I can convince them to switch? I recently cashed out at mylot and my balance is now under 25 cents so I don't feel bad losing that piddly amount. Wish me luck!

I use to be an active member of MyLot. Alot of my friends left and I just couldn't keep up with all the rule changes. Plus, I got tired of the people starting drama on my posts. Just so they would get deleted. I would rather stay here at gather, where I feel I have true friends and can be myself.

Right on, my friend! It is good to be able to be yourself. mylot's rules were far too restrictive for me and I found more and more of the posts from my "friends" there just did not interest me. But I had to comment on their posts in order for them to earn. A simple view didn't count. Gather is much less restrictive and I like being able to post things that can just be enjoyed without having to comment.
Alot of the posts on MyLot did not interest me either. One of the rules that bothered me was leaving a comment that someone else did. Not that I did that but when someone has 30 comments, why was we expected to read each one so our comment was not similar where others thought it was copied and pasted and not our own? That was the last straw for me.

Yeah, the leash was just a little too short for me on mylot. I PMed nine of my friends inviting them to Gather and deleted all the others. So many of the "discussions" were from people who were in third world countries, too, who were posting about things that I had no way of relating to, often about figureheads or sports figures in their countries that I had never heard of. I found that I was commenting maybe twice a week and usually only on one of the nine friends I PMed. I really like the freedom I have here on Gather.
I found the same. Just not enough American people to join in their questions. I only connected with American or Canadian people on Mylot for that very reason.

Yup. I think this is the right thing for me. Another problem I had on mylot was a majority of the folks there didn't even speak English very well. There were a lot of folks in India and other places in Asia minor. Improper English is painful enough for me when it's written by someone whose native language it is. When it's written by someone who has it as a second language...with few exceptions (winking at Christine), it is near impossible for me to read!

Another problem I had with them was with the payout. Whatever my balance was at the end of the month, if it was over $10, that was what I was paid...and it usually took two weeks to get it. They didn't deduct it from my balance until it was paid out, either, so I never knew what my payment was going to be or what my remaining balance would be.

The topics were listed in random order. I suggested that they alphabetize them to make locating the topic I wanted easier and it never happened. I was with them for a year and made maybe two or three payouts. Not good enough for the hassle involved. Gather is definitely superior.
