Supernatural season 8 premieres on October 3 with "We Need to Talk About Kevin," which will see Dean returning from purgatory and reuniting with Sam, who had been out of the hunting life. The brothers will hit the road together once again, and now the CW has released a sneak peek from that first episode.
SPN Season 8 Episode 1 "We Need to Talk About Kevin" Clip
"SAM AND DEAN ARE REUNITED AFTER A YEAR APART — Dean (Jensen Ackles) re-emerges from Purgatory, but he isn't alone. He heads straight for Sam (Jared Padalecki), but the reunion isn't exactly what he thought it would be. Sam drops everything to join his brother, but leaving the life he had grown to enjoy turns out to be harder than he imagined. Dean and Sam look for Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) who has managed to escape Crowley's (guest star Mark Sheppard) grasp, but things come to a head quickly when Kevin tells them what it is that Crowley wants."
Before the brothers can get to work, which, they'll find out once they find Kevin, involves the possibility of closing the gates of hell for good, they need to reunite, and that's exactly what happens in the first sneak peek out from the October 3 episode.
The Supernatural season 8 episode 1 sneak peek from the premiere "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (below) shows Sam drive the Impala up to a cabin and once inside, Dean attacks him, performing the usual check to make sure Sam's Sam. When Dean offers the supplies to Sam, however, the younger brother says he's knows he's him. Dean insists on proving it, and once that's done, then it's time for the Winchester reunion hug.
After that, it's time to talk business, and that means cluing Sam into the fact that Dean's been in purgatory for a year. As Dean explains, "Time flies when you're running for your life," and he's vague when Sam wants to know how he got out. That's because he got out with the help of Benny, a vampire, who will be recurring this season and a reason for some secrets.
When it comes to Castiel, Dean says he didn't make it: "Something happened to him down there. Things got pretty hairy towards the end, and he just let go." When Sam asks if he saw him die, Dean says, "I saw enough" and leaves it at that. Is Castiel really dead? He is going to be appearing in at least eight episodes, but so far, all talk has been about Castiel in flashbacks, so it is very possible that he never makes it out of purgatory. However, since it still has yet to be revealed just what happened in purgatory, anything's possible.
