Egypt has issued an arrest warrant for Pastor Terry Jones, but the Florida preacher said the prophet Muhammad is the one who should be going on trial instead.
"This is an example of how Islam is not compatible with Western society, which is based upon the First Amendment," said the leader of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville. "I do have a degree of sympathy for Muslims. They're like a lot of Christians who havent read the Bible — they dont understand what type of life Muhammad actually led."
Don't the Egyptian officials understand they are playing right into the pastor's hands? Before he began bashing Islam, Terry Jones was just another broken-down preacher from the Bible Belt. Now, he's a household name worldwide, and a hero to the millions who feel bullied and threatened by violent Islamists.
By issuing an arrest warrant for Terry Jones, Egypt is highlighting just how intolerant and backwards that country truly is. It's 2012, and they are trying an American citizen in absentia for religious crimes. What makes this even more grotesque, is that the United States provides $2 billion in foreign aid to the North African country each year!
Jones first gained notoriety in 2010, when he announced plans to burn the Koran, sparking worldwide protests.
