I just used Chase yesterday to pay my bills. They must have gone down after I did it. I've had times in the past when they'd be down for a day or two. It's a real pain and, no, they don't reimburse for late fees -- I asked.

I have a Chase card and use their web site regularly. I agree with what you say-- for such a large bank, the web site is poorly maintained. The best bank web site I've used is Bank of America.

BTW, you might try calling each creditor and making a phone payment. I've escaped late payments that way.

My mother's mortgage was with Chase. As Alzheimer's set in, she missed a payment now and then. At one point they started foreclosure operations, and put a lock box on the door. I paid the arrears, and asked the nice lady on the phone how to get the lockbox taken off. She told me she would ask Property Security to take care of it. They didn't, Nor did they ever answer their phone when, after 30 minutes of being transferred here and there, I got through to their Top Secret phone number. Nor the next time. We finally sold the condo, paid off the mortgage, and I will not use Chase ever again, even to get meter change for a one.

B of A is slightly better, and several meters ahead of Wells Fargo, which is evidently the Bank of Romney, since they seem unconcerned about anyone with less that a half a gazillion dollars in an account. I banked with them because my very first bank account was with them and I thought they had cool checks and a significant history. They also apparently liked delaying the processing of my deposits so that I was often overdrawn... thirty bucks a hit. I gave up on banks about three years ago and moved my checking account to my credit union. Aside from the fact that their nearest office is 50 miles away, I love them.

I'd use a credit union as well, except that I need a bank with offices in both Connecticut and New Mexico.

I could tell you some amazing stories about the incompetence of BOA once they exceeded a certain size. I'm glad to see them downsizing a bit. I was actually happy when they closed the branch in our Connecticut town, since it was no more helpful than an ATM.

aniko, my father used to say "Beware the fury of a patient man." I usually like to temper my remarks with a bit of humor, or of obscurantism if no humor is available, but the financial industry, especially after the past four years, arouses in me only bloodlust.

Yeah, it was exactly the lack of those elements that I noticed, and the shorter, more straightforward sentences. (The same thing happens to me, I admit.) :)

That is one reason why I don't like everything going electronic. My electric and gas is either pay online or by phone. No place in my area to pay in cash....ugh!!
