The 50 Shades of Grey movie talk just added a rather strange and unexpected sound bite to its ongoing script. And it comes courtesy of none other than Justin Bieber! The chatter track encircling the film adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling, erotic book has so far been filled with titillating tabloid rumors about which hunk-star actor and pretty actress should play the seductive and racy parts of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. And the upcoming movie's gossip scene has also been littered with imaginative trailers starring various frontrunners.
But who would have even dared to imagine Justin Bieber, the 18-year-old, "Boyfriend"-singing, pop sensation with the teeny-bopper followers and barely the hint of a bicep as the formidable, millionaire business tycoon of James' tome. Absurd! A supposed favorite--Ryan Gosling--even seems a stretch, when the romantic actor is put up against more hard-edged, fierce specimens like Alexander Skarsgard, Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder.
Nevertheless, Bieber apparently revealed he was asked to star in the film when he did an interview with Jonathan Ross' talk show. "They actually want me to be in the movie!" he gushed, as The New Zealand Herald reports.
A likely story! The Biebs is known for being quite the prankster (from coning to planking and practical jokes in spades), so it seems that he may have just been up to his old teasing tricks with this little admission. On top of the pure incongruity of Justin Bieber in the 50 Shades of Grey flick, James herself has firmly denied that any casting meetings with potential actors have occurred.
The multitalented Bieber may be able to bust out more than a few chart-topping tunes, while captivating concert audiences, promoting a hit fragrance, raising funds for charitable causes and taking Twitter by storm with his every utterance of 140 characters or less. But, regardless of those skills, Christian Grey is one challenge that may be better left to another star.
Even Justin Bieber's girlfriend, Selena Gomez, who has been exploring her more risqué side in grown-up movie roles put her stiletto down when it came to Grey, admitting it would be too much and too risky. So, unfortunately for the Biebs, his Grey days may always be a fantasy--or a practical joke, as the case may be. Gomez probably isn't too disappointed.
