Now that the Kindle Fire 2 release date has been revealed, the brand new Amazon tablet has been getting reviews from all over the internet. The newest Kindle Fire HD review calls the device a "great tablet and great value," ahead of the official release of the new offerings from Barnes & Noble and the iPad Mini.
Since a week of Kindle Fire HD pre-orders have landed the device atop the bestsellers list at Amazon, consumers are anxious to get their hands on the new tablet. They'll get the first experiences with it starting on Friday, September 14th as the $199 7-inch device will be shipping to buyers around the United States. However, websites including Mashable have started rolling out their reviews after being able to handle the tablets already.
The Mashable review seems to be in love with the new Amazon tablet, saying it has really built upon and redesigned the original Fire in many ways. They call the Kindle Fire 4.0 operating system better than Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" which is currently running on the Nexus 7 and other devices. Mashable also commends the new features including X-Ray for Movies and Immersive Reading, and says that the new MIMO-based Wi-Fi really aids in the movie streaming capabilities of the device. They also like the new email integration, as well as gaming on the device.
However, there are a few things Mashable points out that they don't completely love, or understand, about the new Kindle Fire HD. One example, which others will agree with, is that the camera only works with Skype right now. There has been some indication that it may be able to work with the Facebook app as well, but it seems strange to have a camera and a storage spot on the Amazon cloud for pictures, but no way to easily take them with this tablet. Quite possibly, an update will allow this in the future, or a clever app will be made to help take photos easily.
The other drawbacks that are pointed out include some Silk browser crashes, the lack of a power plug being included with the device, and those pesky advertisements that are run on all the tablets in standard form. There has been a new offer revealed by Amazon where customers can pay $15 to get rid of the ads, but it almost seems like blackmail. Then again, it's rare to visit a website these days without ads popping up, right?
In all, Mashable really calls this a "fantastic value" for a tablet, despite the drawbacks. It is mentioned that Apple will be introducing their own 7-inch tablet next month, so it might be best to wait if you're contemplating either the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, or Apple iPad Mini. For many consumers, they typically buy their content from either Google, Amazon, or Apple, so that makes their decision pretty easy though.
