As the Kindle Fire 2 release date approaches in just a few days from now, many sites are reporting their initial reactions and other updates about Amazon's new tablet. One site is now giving future Kindle Fire HD owners a list of what they believe are the best apps to have on the device, in order to maximize it's "entertainment value."
Currently, the Kindle Fire HD tablet is a top seller at Amazon just as many would expect. The product was announced just last week to mixed reactions, but for the most part, they were many who jumped on board and realized they could have their hands on the new tablet within about a week. Most tech-savvy buyers will instantly start testing out the bells and whistles, but some may decide they need some guidance in terms of how they set things up.
While some of the basics might include getting Facebook, Twitter, and email set up on the Kindle Fire HD, it's also got plenty of wow factor in terms of entertaining. It boasts Dolby Digital sound, and a beautiful HD display which is supposedly more glare resistant than other tablets. So with that in mind, it can be used not only for simply surfing the internet, checking email or messing around on Facebook, but also for watching multimedia content.
For that reason, CNN has listed out "6 must-have apps" for the new tablet. They include four that many people will probably be familiar with: HBO GO, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. The caveat with each of these is they work at a cost. Amazon Prime is $79 a year to enjoy loads of movies, TV and Kindle ebook lending, as well as free two-day shipping. Netflix costs even more, because at $7.99 a month it adds up to $96 a year. HBO GO is a service which only those customers currently paying for cable or satellite HBO can enjoy. Hulu Plus is also a service which costs. It has a price tag of $7.99 a month, just like Netflix. However, many individuals are currently enjoying these services as an alternative to hefty cable or satellite bills.
Two other apps which CNN brings up are freebies, that could be good ones. One is the Freedi YouTube Downloader app. This app lets you convert YouTube videos to MP4 files and then save them on a Kindle Fire for viewing at a later time. So basically, someone who is going on a trip could convert a few hours worth of videos to bring on a plane, train, or in the car. The drawback to this is the time that might be spent converting all those videos. CNN also mentions Revision 3, a San Francisco-based Internet TV network which offers a hit Kindle Fire app. With it, viewers can enjoy various shows such as "Tekzilla," "Geek Beat" and "Film Riot." It's a free app with high quality videos from a company owned by Discovery Channel. Can't beat free, right?
When it comes down to it, many customers and reviewers will still wait until the Kindle Fire HD release date arrives and they have that tablet in their hands. Then the real lists will start to come out regarding what apps soar, or sag on the new handheld device.
