The 50 Shades of Grey movie has gotten American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis a lot of much-wanted attention, but the writer seems to be taking his obsession with the book a little too far.
He recently got in a row with Matt Bomer fans for claiming that the actor is too gay to play Christian Grey, and now he's trying to shove James Deen down the throats of 50 Shades fans. The author seems to be pretty good pals with Deen, who is currently working on the movie The Canyons. Ellis wrote the screenplay for the film.
Ellis recently tried to give his friend a little more mainstream movie cred by tweeting that the adult movie star who resembles Kirk Cameron is in the running for the role of Christian Grey, and now it seems that Deen is taking his claim and running with it as he starts his campaign to win the part.
According to the IB Times, Deen recently tweeted a photo of his face alongside a composite sketch of Christian Grey. He also tweeted a link to a story about how he's in the running for the role along with this message:
"Deenagers unite!!!! RT @prefixmag Would you watch 'Fifty Shades of Grey' if the lead role was a porn star?"
Ugh. How awful is it that James Deen calls his followers "Deenagers?" Then again, the term of endearment kind of works since he supposedly has a massive teen girl following. So if he gets cast as Christian, there will probably be a lot of underage girls sneaking into theaters to see the 50 Shades of Grey movie.
Deen doesn't really look the part since he's a little too guy-next-door-ish, but apparently he's already conducting research for the role. He recently tweeted this:
"I now have a suspension point and pulley system in my house... Who's ready to party (insert devious grin here) # bdsmdreamcometrue"
It sounds like Deen is starting to build his own Red Room of Pain.
Here's an idea that might work for "Deenagers" and 50 Shades fans who don't want the porn star playing their beloved Christian - why doesn't Deen star in a porn parody of the movie instead? Since it could feature some of the explicit stuff that the mainstream movie can't, it might prove to be just as popular.
If Deen starts campaigning hard for the role, he's up against some stiff competition - Ian Somerhalder has also been fighting for it, and he's amassed a rather large fan following that also wants to see him play Fifty.
So do you think that Deen actually has a chance at playing Christian, or is Bret Easton Ellis just claiming that he does to draw attention to his movie The Canyons?
