GENTLY FLOW THE SEASONS

© 2012 by David Wainland
Butter yellow butterflies still drift through
late summer afternoon doldrums
A fiery parchment leaf softly falls
buffeted by a Labor Day breeze
The changing season beckons us
headlong into the quite fertile fall
Winter is far from the mind
while we prepare for a harvest
November stealthily appears
followed by sumptuous banquets
The season changes again
no more yellow butterflies
Limbs bowed with frozen rain
reindeer tracks in the snow
Reflect upon the passing year
with silent promises
As soon, the spring will call
to green and crown the trees
