The 50 Shades of Grey movie favorites for the role of Christian Grey might seem pretty set in stone at this point - fans have been fighting for Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, or Alexander Skarsgard to win the part. However, a recent poll revealed that Christian Bale could be the latest frontrunner for the film.
Bale is a very surprising choice since he's too old to pull off playing a 28-year-old, but Christian's age could always be adjusted for the movie. An older actress could also be cast as Ana if he gets the part - some fans really want to see 30-year-old Alexis Bledel or 29-year-old Mila Kunis play the college student who gets seduced by the billionaire who is "fifty shades of f***ed up."
According to PolicyMic, the 50 Shades of Grey movie producers might want to start seriously considering Christian Bale for the part -- he won a recent fan poll with 33 percent of the vote, and he even managed to beat Twilight star Robert Pattinson, who plays the character that Christian is based on.
So why do women want to see Bale play the part? Surely it's not just because he shares the same name as the character. Instead fans might feel like an experienced older actor would do a better job of playing a tortured soul like Christian, or perhaps they all remember Bale's turn as a sophisticated, violence-loving businessman in American Psycho. He also recently played a billionaire with a dark secret and a troubled past in The Dark Knight Rises.
But perhaps it would be more fun to see Bale spoof 50 Shades by combining Grey with one of his other movie characters - he could star in an SNL sketch or a Funny or Die video that shows Christian Grey taking his love of physically harming women a little too far (what if Grey had a chainsaw in his collection of sex toys?), or perhaps Batman could convert his Batcave into a Red Room of Pain in hopes of wooing Catwoman.
So can you picture Bale playing Christian?
