New 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Unofficial Trailer Stars Ian Somerhalder, Alexis Bledel With Nickelback Score (Video)

The latest in the seemingly endless line of Fifty Shades of Grey unofficial trailers stars Ian Somerhalder as the titular sadistic hero, Christian Grey and the seemingly ubiquitous Alexis Bledel as his submissive lady-love, Anastasia Steele. The new video is definitely a winner. Fast-paced, palpably erotic, and visually stunning, it may be the best 50 Shades of Grey trailer yet.

Unlike many of the other unofficial videos, the Somerhalder/Bledel version is filmed in color. Nevertheless, it somehow manages to convey the dark, brooding film noir imagery and ambience of similar trailers filmed in black and white. That chiaroscuro-lit imagery serves as a mirror for the entrancing landscape of Christian Grey's troubled soul. Also unlike the others, the latest version of the BDSM couple's bizarre romantic odyssey is chronologically correct--not only in its visual recounting of the Grey/Steele romance but also in its image-encapsulated presentation of Christian's life prior to his meeting with Anastasia. At the 0.13 mark, there's even a close-up image of Christian Grey as a wide-eyed, innocent child interspersed among the more startling, often almost subliminal glimpses of the adult Christian Grey's world which is defined by both sexual and financial power and control. There are, of course, the requisite scenes of hair pulling and handcuffs, heavy breathing and hard-squeezed, heaving half-naked breasts. Ouch. And of course, through all this artistry, there's Ian Somerhalder, brooding, smiling, laying on the charm, and dishing out the punishment. This is Christian Grey's trailer, which actually fits in perfectly with the SM theme since he was the dominant partner. It all works flawlessly. And the music couldn't be more perfect if it had been written expressly for the video.
