There was definitely a lot of chaos going on near a South Los Angeles school on August 29 when an elderly driver hit 11 people, including nine children, with his car. And this elderly driver was not just 80 or even 90 years old - he was 100! How could the state possibly allow this extremely old man to have his license this long?
People near the school actually had to knock on his windows to get him to stop driving his car. Alma Solache, a 24-year-old mother, said that he was not paying attention and that it took at least two or three seconds for him to stop the car.
Nobody was killed, but four children were in critical condition when they arrived to the hospital after the accident. Luckily, they are now stabilized and expected to survive.
When the driver, Preston Carter, was asked about the accident, he said, "My brakes failed. It was out of control." He also added that he is sorry about hitting the children and that he feels a lot of sympathy for them.
It is obvious that the accident happened because the driver is extremely elderly. The man backed onto a sidewalk as he was backing out of a grocery store parking lot! When a person is that old, he does not have the same judgment as everyone else and can make a lot of mistakes - mistakes that could kill others. This is proof a person's license should be taken away once he reaches a certain age.
