With the finale just weeks away, So You Think You Can Dance 2012 bade farewell to two more finalists on August 29, trimming the field from eight to just the top six. So which talented performers definitely won't be crowned America's favorite dancers?
Shortly after a Tiffany Maher/Ade Obayomi routine that prompted Nigel Lythgoe to quote the boy-band One Direction, show host Cat Deeley called all 8 finalists onto the stage for the week's results.

She first turned her attention to the girls. With very little ado, good friends and ballroom dancers Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson found themselves in the bottom two, which left Eliana Girard and Tiffany Maher safe to dance again.
Shortly thereafter, Cat turned to the guys. While animator Cyrus "Glitch" Spencer and ballet dancer Chehon Wespi-Tschopp were saved to dance again, contemporary stylist Will Thomas and martial arts fusion expert Cole Horibe faced potential elimination.
Minutes later, the actual elimination commenced. Nigel Lythgoe called it "an incredible season" for both Witney and Lindsay, and said he looked forward to seeing both during the So You Think You Can Dance tour. But one of them had to go. Lindsay smiled upon hearing the news that Witney had advanced to the top 6, and graciously accepted the audience's applause.
With one decision down, there was still one more cut to be made. Nigel called it "really difficult" to choose between Cole and Will, but said that they'd come to a group decision. Following in Lindsay's well-heeled shoes, Will smiled upon learning that Cole had been saved to dance again. Always the good guy, Will called the SYTYCD experience "so fun" and whooped and hollered as his fellow castmates joined him on stage to say good-bye.
It's sad to see both of them leave. It's especially sad to see Lindsay up against her close bud Witney; hopefully, the outcome will be just a blip on their friendship radar. And in losing Will, the show loses a huge part of its heart and personality. But with all of that said, two dancers had to go, and losing any one of the top six is hard.
So You Think You Can Dance 2012 continues September 5 with the top 6 performance show, as well as another big cut.
