The 50 Shades of Grey movie buzz may be beginning to have as much shock factor as the blockbuster book itself--well, maybe not quite. But the upcoming film adaptation of E.L. James' erotic page-turner, which has been the seductive splash of the summer, continues to captivate the attention of Hollywood and the crush of readers (and even fashion designers who are inspired by the risqué scenes!), all the while the debate rages on about just who is best suited to take on the parts of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. However, one handsome fellow may have just fallen off the hot list. So who shall take his place?
Ryan Gosling's name has seemingly been associated as a frontrunner star for the 50 Shades of Grey film for some time. However, the romantic heart-throb with the chick-flick resume always appeared to be a strange pick; he's far too soft and emotional for such a powerful, dangerously passionate business tycoon. But it's not these characteristics that may have cut this lover-boy out of the running; rather, he's swapping his acting gig for a directorial debut in the movie, How to Catch a Monster. Therefore, he may be way too, ahem, "tied up" with that project to properly pursue his inner Grey factor.
However, girls who are gaga for Gosling may find solace in the other hunk-star picks who have strong potential for some major screen time in Shades. Policymic provides its picks, including the increasingly boundaries-pushing (but not so suavely attractive) Shia LaBeouf and the handsome Matt Bomer, whose chances have been questioned due to his sexual orientation.
The site also throws out Robert Pattinson's name, but he seems to be a long shot now--and kind of old news--when it comes to the Christian Grey role. He and his now possibly ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart were both mentioned at the outset of the movie gab, but his still-strong ties to his Twilight image and her cheating scandal may work against them both.
Interestingly, Policymic leaves three of perhaps the most compelling actors off its top contender roster: Henry Cavill, Ian Somerhalder and Alexander Skarsgard. Cavill has an undeniable cool factor with his upcoming Superman role in Man of Steel. Plus, he's British--and newly single! Somerhalder could easily go from The Vampire Diaries hottie to turning up the heat on the big screen. And the slightly older Skarsgard has that mature, Swedish edge that's provocative and attention-grabbing. He even recently starred in a Calvin Klein fragrance commercial for the new scent, Encounter, which could have been taken straight from the pages of Grey. And because of that powerful CK campaign, he may have just increased his odds--significantly.
