Fresh Garden Salsa Recipe with photo

Sassy makes fresh garden salsa at least once during tomato season.  If you love salsa and have never eaten fresh salsa, you have got to try it.  Fresh is so much better than canned, especially compared to the mass-produced jars of salsa on the grocery shelves.

This salsa recipe is mild.  Use more or hotter chile peppers, if you want it hot, or kick it up with spicier seasoning.  Or add a cup of canned black beans, rinsed and drained. 

Sassy's Summer Fresh Garden Salsa

4 cups diced tomatoes
kernels cut from 1 ear of blanched sweet corn
1/4 cup chopped sweet onion
chile peppers - choose your weapon!  I used 1/2 of a poblano pepper, seeded and minced
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Stir all ingredients together.  Serve with tortilla chips.  Refrigerate leftovers.

I love fresh salsa and I make it at least once a week through the summer months. I opt for a more spicy and fiery salsa but yours looks great too. I never put sugar in mine but I do add loads of chiles. Yours would be great in recipes and marinades though. Looks delicious.

cilantro has to stay out of there that stuff tastes like soap to me, but the rest sounds good.

did you ever get any tomatilos last year, those are great in salsa. i have some coming up wild now

Brown sugar, eh? Hmmmm! Sounds and looks delicious!

I made some homemade bruschetta with my homegrown tomatoes recently. SO GOOD!

Sounds delicious. Years ago while visiting my sister for her granddaughter's graduation, my grandson and I made a fresh salsa except that it wasn't tomato season so I used canned crushed Italian tomatoes. We cut up bell peppers, hot peppers, onions, garlic, cilantro, fresh lime juice, and I don't recall now if we put anything else in. I asked my grandson if he thought it needed salt, and he said, "Well, the chips are salty." I agreed that he had a good point. Several said it was by far the best salsa they had ever tasted and kept going back for more.
