Matt Lauer isn't nearly as popular with The Today Show staff as Lester Holt is, and most hold him responsible for Ann Curry's firing as well. It certainly sounds like one big uncomfortable scene behind the scenes at Today--doesn't it?
According to a report from RadarOnline, ratings have plummeted since Savannah Guthrie replaced Ann Curry. Matt still stands by her as his co-host--clearly not caring that the network is taking a beating in the ratings. Good Morning America has beaten The Today Show in the ratings for the first full week following the London Olympics. Good Morning America scored 4.654 million over TODAY's 4.399 million.
"Staffers and producers at the TODAY show hold Matt Lauer responsible for the continued decline in the ratings because they hold him responsible for Ann Curry being fired," a source says.
"The staff wants Ann to be brought back and want Matt replaced with Lester Holt, but they know the odds of this happening are slim to none, because executives at the network have no interaction whatsoever with the TODAY show staff."
Wow--that sounds pretty serious, doesn't it? If this kind of underlying stress and unhappiness continues, do you think people will start complaining about Matt and the turmoil he's caused? Even if they do, it doesn't sound like it will get them very far.
"Lester, like Ann, is very respected by the staff and is always a true class act. If Lester had been in Matt's shoes he never would have told the executive producer and honchos at NBC to fire Ann. Lester and Ann report the news, period, and don't engage in backstabbing antics," the source adds.
Matt Lauer is clearly riding high these days. He's managed to rid The Today Show of Ann Curry and now hangs out in his office on a daily basis with both Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales. Do you remember that before Savannah was chosen to take Ann's place that Matt's wife threatened repercussions if Natalie Morales was chosen for the job? Now the three attend movie screenings and joke around all the time, earning the nickname "The Three Musketeers."
The Today Show staff would love to see Ann Curry come back and Lester Holt in one of the top two spots, but alas these are nothing but pipe dreams. Lauer has clearly manipulated everyone and gotten what he wants and he doesn't care that others have paid a big price.
Are you surprised to learn that Lester is more popular with staff members at The Today Show than Matt is? Now that you hear what's going on behind the scenes, can you really blame staff members for feeling that way?

One person; one deceptive devious evil man -Lauer himself! He should be confronted; I certain would've done it-Face to Face! Never be afraid of the truth because the truth sets one free! Lauer will continue to run until he's caught in his own web unless NBC get rid of him, as well as those two flighty wimps, which they should!
