Neil Armstrong has passed away at the age of 82. Armstrong's family released a statement confirming that the legendary astronaut was gone. The man that made a "giant leap for mankind" had just celebrated his 82nd birthday on August 5th. No word on his cause of death has been released.
Armstrong, a former test pilot, set foot on the moon under the Kennedy administration and spent 20 minutes as the only human to have done so before his crew mate Buzz Aldrin joined him. Nearly a sixth of the world's population watched Neil take those first steps and his words have been immortalized in television and film multiple times in the years after.
The world has lost a large piece of modern history in the passing of Neil Armstrong. Very few have ever been into space and even fewer have walked on the moon. Armstrong was an American treasure that can never be replaced and will never be forgotten.
