The 50 Shades of Grey movie now has a new top contender, thanks to an old cologne ad of Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill.
After being cast as the next Superman, Cavill's star is certainly on the rise, so it wouldn't be surprising if the man of steel ends up seducing Anastasia Steele in the 50 Shades movie. And because the English actor is getting so much buzz recently, Fifty fans have been scouring the web looking for more info on him.
As PolicyMic reports, one interesting tidbit that they found was a 2008 Dunhill fragrance ad featuring a helicopter flying over the London skyline and Henry in a sexy suit. Henry stands on top of a helipad while waiting for a helicopter emblazoned with the letter "G" to land.
It's likely that the creators of the ad were going for a James Bond theme, but 50 Shades of Grey fans are comparing Henry Cavill's character to Christian Grey. As they point out, Christian travels via his own helicopter dubbed "Charlie Tango."
So did the ad inspire E. L. James to create Christian?
It's possible. At one point, Cavill was Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's favorite to play Edward Cullen. The first Twilight movie came out in 2008, the same time the Dunhill commercial aired. Since James started writing the Twilight fanfiction that would become 50 Shades in 2009, you would think that she pictured Robert Pattinson as Christian. However, on her old website, she said that she started writing after she finished reading the Twilight novels, not after watching the first movie. So who knows? Perhaps she learned that Stephenie Meyer originally wanted Henry to play Edward Cullen; saw the Dunhill ad; and based Grey on Henry's character in it.
There's also proof that she might not be the biggest Robert Pattinson fan -- she said that she doesn't want Rob or Kristen Stewart in the 50 Shades movie.
If E. L. James is a fan of Meyer's original picks for the Twilight movies, then perhaps she'll consider casting the Twilight author's first choice to play Bella - brunette beauty Emily Browning has experience filming extremely awkward sex scenes in the movie Sleeping Beauty. It could be fun to see Stephenie's original picks playing a different odd couple.
Interestingly, Cavill's fragrance ad isn't the only one that has attracted the attention of Fifty fans - Alexander Skarsgard's ad for Calvin Klein's Encounter has many of them calling for him to get cast as Christian.
Alexander has experience with shooting steamy scenes on the show True Blood, but Cavill will soon play a character who has something in common with Christian - a secret that he hides from the rest of the world and a strong-willed woman that he cares about. Henry also played a playboy who later becomes a family man on The Tudors.
So do you think that Cavill would make the perfect Christian, or do you prefer Alexander Skarsgard?
