The 2012 LLWS results from Tuesday (August 21) certainly brought out the home runs. Day 6 of the Little League World Series had just three games, but Mexico and California sure showed the importance of hitting home runs. By the end of the day, two more teams had been eliminated, creating some very interesting match-ups in the brackets.
The first game of the day was another consolation game, this one taking place between MEA and Northwest (Oregon). The MEA team won it 3-2, bringing to an end the experience for both teams. This game took place outside of the brackets, so it didn't have an impact on the other games.
There was just one game in the International bracket Tuesday (August 21) and that was Caribbean vs. Mexico. Mexico took full advantage of their power hitters again, but they also backed up the offense with some great fundamental defense. Mexico won 6-2 to improve to 3-1 in the tournament and become one of the final three teams left in the International bracket. They now await the lower of the Latin America vs. Japan game.
On the United States bracket, California (West) took on Connecticut (New England) in the night game. Connecticut had trouble scoring runs again, but the pitching wasn't there to bail them out. A crucial three-run homer by the California team propelled them to a 5-0 victory and took them into the final three teams left in the United States bracket. California will next play against the loser of the Southeast vs. Southwest game.
Have you been surprised by any of the early 2012 LLWS results? Which team do you think has the best chance to win the 2012 Little League World Series?
