But, there is a catch. The edited version of the video is a little over five minutes long. According to at least one eye-witness, the encounter lasted about 15 minutes. So, what happened to the other 10 minutes of tape?
The few minutes of video leave more questions than answers.
Part of the information released includes two witness statements. Jason Parameter says he watched the encounter from his friend's house. He reveals he did see another car pull up and talk with officers before leaving. According to the police report, this would have been Chavis' aunt who he supposedly called before getting cuffed. In the officers' police report, when the car drove off, they heard a loud metallic sound and assumed the car had hit something.
According to Parameter, the police were "scurrying" back and forth between their cars after the other car drove off. What were they doing? In the officers' accounting of events, Chavis Carter was not discovered until the stop was over, and the officers were leaving. They didn't even glance at their prisoner once during all this running back and forth?
The other witness says she heard "a loud pop." She says police were standing outside of the car, but does not say exactly how far from the car they were. She does note the windows were up on the patrol car. This witness is adamant the police had nothing to do with Chavis's death.
During Officer Marsh's search of Chavis, he found small unused baggies that were assumed to be used for selling drugs, but he missed the gun. Odd, don't you think? While the video and statements shed a little light on the case, there are still a lot of questions left unanswered.

Of course, the gun could have been hidden better than the drugs but, still and all, did the cop simply stop looking when he found the dope? maybe... but that would be some pretty poor policing.
Still no good answers to this. In time, maybe we'll be privy to what the cops (probably) already know... whatever that may be. I dislike judging people based on such shallow evidence but this does seem to scream for more attention.
