| Professor Julian Savulescu said that creating so-called designer babies could be considered a "moral obligation" as it makes them grow up into "ethically better children". The expert in practical ethics said that we should actively give parents the choice to screen out personality flaws in their children as it meant they were then less likely to "harm themselves and others". The academic, who is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Ethics, made his comments in an article in the latest edition of Reader's Digest. He explained that we are now in the middle of a genetic revolution and that although screening, for all but a few conditions, remained illegal it should be welcomed. IMO, evolution is a "slow" process to achieve a gene modification. Therefore human being (HB) is not scared by such GMO process but by the fact that, as HB we can interfere into the process of evolution which should be the domain of God or Nature at the least.
This why HB is scared about GMO. With such technique HB is or would be able to interfere, as well, on its OWN evolution so creating a new HB to have the qualities we would like him to have.
ActuaL HB disregard the necessary delay due to the many generations needed for such a change ... unless acting on the very first cells of the fetus, out present techniques will any way be improving as to be able to know, very soon, if a complex of small cells is already loaded with any disease.
Very religious people "enjoy" having a baby with heavy disease as a "God punishment" unable to figure out that who suffers the most is the baby himself. They go with such "punishment" expecting to end in Heaven.
Therefore the way we, common HB, see the GMO process is not a scientific one but a psychological problem. The very same problem which refuses any white or yellow skinned people to understand that the color is the result of the how many pigments per sq. inch the family generations are used to.
