Got up fairly early this AM, and after checking my Yahoo emails, I clicked on Gather next. It was shortly before 7:00AM, and not long after, robo comments, aka generic, started flooding Gather's Home Page on the "People Are Talking" section. Since I, & I know many other members do too, utilize the HP quite often, because IMO, it's the pulse of the Gather community, and keeps me in tuned with what's current. In addition, I now support Socialwriter posts, because they are the bread & butter of Gather~tho' I don't always comment, I give plenty of views.
And, since when is repetetive commenting considered "talking?" There's space for 8 comments, & when 1 member uses all 8 spaces saying the same ol' crap, other members are shut out~it's rude and highly inconsiderate! Well, after about an hour, I pinged this robo-commenting member:
Hi _______, can you not take up so much time on the Gather HP with your robo comments~many of us use that page to keep up with posts & it's been over an hour!
And, no response~well, actually she responded by keeping up with her robos for another 2 hours. Now I know some members still think we get points for comments, but we don't~robo comments were partly responsible for that! Plus, this shows clear disregard for your fellow members for hogging up valuable space for hours at a time. It would be beneficial to all if you robo-cons could choose a better time, and limit your inane chatter to just a short period of time. No doubt about it, robo comments are boring, useless, and totally ANNOYING!!!

Most post drivel, and many simply cut and paste.
As a foreigner, I can make no money/gift cards/freebies from Gather, so I feel free to tell it as I see it.
Gather has simply given many mediocre 'writers' posts as skywriters. Most cannot write!
I clarified acceptable subjects with my editor, & have been given the go-ahead to write about things important to me--education, social services, research into the way children think--it's such a relief not to be limited to writing about celebrities & designer crap, LOL. It should be much easier to come up with posts of some substance :-).
