Rihanna gained the sympathy of a lot of people after Chris Brown beat her up in February 2009, but she wasn't worried about what would happen to her after Breezy left her bloody and bruised - instead she felt bad for her ex-boyfriend.
According to Contact Music, Ri-Ri said that she did feel "angry and hurt and betrayed," but the incident also left her feeling very confused - this is because she found herself being concerned about how the world would view the man she had loved.
The "S&M" singer made this statement about the aftermath of the assault while talking to Oprah:
"I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. And who's going to help him? Nobody's going to say he needs help, everybody's going to say he's a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him.''
Obviously a lot of people are going to analyze these words. Some women will think that she's crazy for being so forgiving, while those who try to help the victims of domestic abuse will probably say that Rihanna's comments about Chris Brown are dangerous - in a way she seems to be trying to turn him into the victim. She's right that Chris needed help, but obviously she did, too - no woman should be in a relationship with a man that beats them. Based on the way she's talking about Chris now, fans will definitely think that she still has feelings for him.
Team Breezy fans will probably argue that Ri-Ri has moved on, so everyone else should, too. However, she did admit that what Brown did really hurt her by telling Oprah, ''I lost my best friend... everything I knew switched -- switched in a night. And I couldn't control that. It's not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching.''
Still, it almost sounds like Ri-Ri is upset that the assault led to the demise of her relationship with Chris. She seems to be having a hard time moving on, while her attacker is now dating another woman and enjoying a successful career. It's extremely sad and disturbing that things turned out the way that they did, especially since the results send a horrible message to these stars' young fans - girls will think that it's okay to keep adoring abusive men, while guys will think that it's no big deal to abuse the girls that adore them.
