New Kindle Fire 2 release date rumors are appearing by the day. The latest comes as Barnes & Noble has drastically reduced the prices of its Nook tablet lineup, in what appears to be their attempt to enter the highly-competitive tablet market which currently includes the Nexus 7, iPad, and of course Amazon's Fire tablet. Could this mean that Amazon will move even faster to reveal its brand new tablet?

According to iReaderReview.com, Barnes & Noble made a huge move just today by cutting the price of its 16 GB Nook tablet down to $199. That's a $50 cut from its original pricing of $249. It also makes it a fierce competitor to Amazon's tablet which is also priced at $199, but just so happens to only have 8 GB of built-in memory.

Not only that, but B&N slashed the price on its 8 GB model down to $179, making it $20 cheaper than before, and $20 cheaper than Amazon's current handheld tablet PC. The Nook Color was also reduced down to $149, which possibly will put pressure on the other eReaders in the Amazon gadget lineup.

These latest price cuts could indicate several things as ireaderreview.com notes. It could be that the new Nexus 7 has forced B&N to make price changes to stay competitive. It could also indicate that a new Nook tablet is coming soon. Or it could be B&N trying to prepare for the other competitors that have yet to make themselves known with their newest products. The new Kindle Fire 2 and a rumored mini iPad are reportedly on the way, and it appears Barnes & Nobles wants to be prepared.

So it's looking like there will be plenty of tablet PC choices to pick from when the 2012 holiday season comes along. New Nooks, Fire tablets, iPads, and a Windows 8 tablet. It's likely tablets will be the hot ticket item for this coming shopping season. Will one company emerge as the victor in the marketplace? It just depends on if these companies introduce their new products too late to keep up with the holiday demand.
