How, when, why? lol If I really think about it, I've been writing since I learned to read. I loved my mother's typewriter. I'd write puppet shows with my brother for our birthday parties as a kid.

How did you chose your pen name? The name "Kate" reminds me of the girl next door but then you added the "Devlin" and that sparks things up a bit. :)

Do you just write in the Erotica genre?
How did you get started in this genre?

How did you know that you wanted to write Erotica instead of normal (for lack of a better word) romance novels?
I like erotica because of the freedom you have. You can explore the relationship between your hero and heroine more fully in my opinion.
This is definitely Angela's genre
Write, and find a crit group. (We know the name of a great one for erotic writers.) Or a crit partner or both.

Erotic books are much more sensual than what I write. Because, I find that I really can't curse in my novels or write other words I am uncomfortable with
Veronica, my kids love the computer so I let them get on it to keep them occupied between meals so I can write.

But promo is difficult to balance once you have a story out there.
I have 5 books published and still haven't figured out how to promo effectively.
Erotica is not a genre I read. That being said, I admire each of you for your writing skills. Many authors have told me that they wake up at night with a brilliant idea for their stories. Do you wake up with thoughts in your head and just have to write them down?
I don't wake up in the middle of the night with a great ideas. The ideas are constantly in my head and won't go away. I was even thinking what next to write in my story while I was driving to go get pizza. Not that I would recommend it, that can be dangerous. Lol
Like at the gym today. The woman beside me on the treadmill was my mother's age, with her earbuds in her ears, music playing from her phone on her arm band. She looked over and said, "Oh, I have that one," in reference to whatever song was playing on my phone at the time. Well, the one she was talkking about was a raunchy little thing my kids found.
I find that each author has a lot to offer the reader and budding authors. No matter what genre they write.
Keep your mind on your driving! LOL
Do you carry a small notebook with you for these thoughts?
I always remember what I was going to write, it will not leave my head at all, my stories always bug me till I write them down. I can tell you what I was going to write for my next chapter right now, because I still remember it in the back of my mind.

Do you write out your story line and then add the details of the scenes or do they just come naturally as part of the story line?
I wait until my first character is fully formed in my head and start with her. Then, I sit down and ask her questions. Where were you born? Tell me about your family. When's your birhtday? Then, I start writing. I don't get to the kind of writing you're talking about until close to the end. By then, all the open choices are gone and you know exactly what's going to happen.
I'm a pantser, not a plotter.
I believe she was a first time author.

How do you separate your novels from your personal life? I assume you do not talk "dirty" in normal conversation. :)
Do your friends know you by your given name or pen name?
Do your friends and family read your books?
What does "MOM" think of your books?
The thing is, my characters, despite engaging in sex in the story LOL are people. Real people don't talk dirty except with their intimate partners.
And much of the erotic part is in the description and not in the dialog.
BUT!!! I got out of handling, "OH I want to read your book!" by saying, "Well, it's a zombie thing..."
I'm a very normal person...you would never know I've got characters undressing in my head. lol I often wonder if that should change.
But, in the bedroom that's a different story. Te he!
By the way, my hubby is the beta type, but an alpha in the bed, just sayin
