 Author #1: Bio

Kate Devlin is a born and bred Texan who wouldn't live anywhere else. She intended to have a music career, but fate deemed otherwise
and led her to the wonderful world of writing. One cog in a large, blended, extended family, she shares a house with her husband, two dogs, a cat and various family members. Her addictions are writing, coffee, her iPad, good pasta and Facebook. Her love of flowers is equaled by her love of gnomes.

For more information, please visit Kate's website.

 Author #2: Bio

S.D. Grady is a lover of many things: men, movies, music, and fast machines. An award winning author, she shares her life with her college
sweetheart and two cats. They live in the house on the hill and often vacation at NASCAR tracks in their RV.

For more information, please visit S.D.'s website

 BIO

Cari Silverwood in her own words:

Though I’d much rather stay invisible and spin you all tales with my words, here’s a little snippet of my world.

I have a lovely family, here in Australia, with the prerequisite teenager who dwells in the dark bedroom catacombs…a husband who raises eyebrows when he catches glimpses of what I write, and a furry menagerie of other animals barking, meowing, and swimming about the place.

I write stories that will blast you from your bed & heroes who will drag you back there by your hair and ravish you endlessly - think kink, adventure, and alpha men.

I will try and make it. I love joining in the live chats.
Connie C. Aug 10, 2012, 1:01pm UTC
Sandy,

We always have a great time at the author chats. This post is rated with adult settings so it will not get the participation of some members. However, I promise you will have a good time.

You can also ask questions now but you really need to attend the chat to win the prizes
Mzzz Sweets - Sandy (Why do I have to add a last name?) Aug 10, 2012, 2:05pm UTC
Adult chats don't bother me. It is remembering when the chat is to participate. I am bad about forgetting. I tend to write things down now.
Connie C. Aug 11, 2012, 10:41am UTC
I have been setting my iPhone to remind me of things lately. My mind is going. . going. . .and nearly gone these days. LOL
Mzzz Sweets - Sandy (Why do I have to add a last name?) Aug 12, 2012, 2:15pm UTC
I would do that but most days my boyfriend has my phone. Since his has been turned off. So that is no help for me.
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 6:26pm UTC
Sandy,

Get ready for the live chat! We are going to have a great time! Can't wait to spend the hour with you and these authors.

Get those questions ready!

Hopefully I can make the chat. Only time will tell. I'm working on yet another short story, one I started on Gather a long while ago but could not finish
Connie C. Aug 10, 2012, 12:59pm UTC
Angela,

You are the first person I thought of when I set this chat up. You just have to attend. You need an hour to unwind and relax during this chat. :)

Remember, you can ask questions now as well. :)
Angela A. Aug 10, 2012, 1:24pm UTC
Thanks Connie. I have been so super busy trying to finish many things I have started over the years. And, I am having fun with it... But, like I said, I hope I remember to attend. I forget a lot lately. Lol
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 6:28pm UTC

This one sounds great. I have a few jobs to wrap up and, if I finish them, I'll enjoy attending this one.
Connie C. Aug 11, 2012, 10:05am UTC
Oh Len, I am so glad you will be able to make it. I love hosting live chats. This genre is new to me so please be patient while I change/update the post. I will send out reminders as well.

Will be great to hear your questions. Have a wonderful day

Don't know why you didn't feature this on Gather Writing Essential, but I will.
Connie C. Aug 21, 2012, 12:21am UTC
Len,

Thank you!

I don't usually feature posts on the WE group. I just let each editor do that on their day. I don't want to take away any privilege that the editors have. I do feature the updates on WE prompts but don't think I will be doing that anymore. Although I have been known to change my mind.

THE FOLLOWING IS A COPY AND PASTE FROM AUTHOR KATE DEVLIN'S BLOG:

I’m Kate Devlin. I came to writing by way of a long, convoluted path through the world of classical music, child rearing, gardening, and yoga. Here I am, happy you stopped by. Even happier to have books to offer you.

I have two out. If you click the little link above this post entitled My Books, you’ll find more information about them. The first is part of a series by Noble Romance called Midnight Melodies. The second is a short in an anthology called Erotic Escapades. Clicking on the book covers will take you to where they are sold. Erotic Escapades is free.

KATE'S BLOG LINK CAN BE FOUND IN THE ABOVE POST.

LIVE CHAT WITH AUTHOR KATE DEVIN AND AUTHOR S. D. GRADY WILL BEGIN IN 22 MINUTES.

Hope you all have a good time. :)
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 6:54pm UTC
Heather,

Do you have questions for the authors on how they write or anything like that?

I know this is not your genre.

I was looking at Kate's name and "Kate" sounds like the girl next door but then you add "Devlin" to it and it gives it a whole other meaning. :)
You don't have to be a reader of Erotica.

There are going to be some nice prizes given away during the chat. The chats are always great even if the genre is not one you would normally read. Each author has their own style of writing.

Thanks for having us Connie :) We're getting together for these chats to help promote our FREE anthology Erotic Escapades. The link is above. And yes, it's erotic, full of naughty thoughts and things.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:06pm UTC
My favorite part is the variety of stories--which is the definition of an anthology, but still... loved that part.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:07pm UTC
Totally agree with you, Kate. We didn't have any real guidelines for the antho, except it should be sexy! What is your story in Erotic Escapades about?
→ Victoria ← Aug 15, 2012, 7:12pm UTC
So, all of you are featured in the anthology then? And it's FREE!? eBook form?
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:49pm UTC
From my understanding, the book is ebook. The link is also added below and available from Smashwords and all romance.

It is currently FREE to download for kindle, Nook and other ebook forms.

A question for all the authors: how long have you been writing professionally?
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:08pm UTC
I just got published this year, but I've been writing for seven years. I wasn't brave when it came to submitting, you see. Midnight Melody is my first published novel.
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:09pm UTC
Ive been writing about 2 years now. My first erotic story was contracted was with Loose Id about November 2010
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:09pm UTC
Hi Victoria. Glad to meet you. I am one of the published authors in ERAuthors--not all of us are. I've been married to my keyboard for about 10 years now. Calling it professional...I'm still working on that part. Still working on the BIG book, ya know?

Hi there. Phew. I just figured this out.

I'm in the anthology also with a little story called Rusted Rattlesnakes and Lubricated Love. It's the teaser first few chapters to a new series of mine - Cataclysm Blues, which is a PNR post-apoc story.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:11pm UTC
Hi Cari! Glad to see you here! :D *squee*

How, when, why? lol If I really think about it, I've been writing since I learned to read. I loved my mother's typewriter. I'd write puppet shows with my brother for our birthday parties as a kid.
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC

Has anyone found with the popularity of Fifty Shades of Gray that there is an increase in sales for erotic fiction?
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:10pm UTC
I believe so, Veronica. I write in the BDSM genre of erotic romance and I know other authors have found this.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:10pm UTC
Yes, everyone is trying to find other books like fifty shades. That's the question I get most often.
→ Victoria ← Aug 15, 2012, 7:11pm UTC
I was hoping someone would bring this up! It seems that erotica is the new thing now!
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC
I'm just wishing Alexander Skarsgard would star in the movie...
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC
There's a more vocal interest...erotica has been driving the ebook explosion. That didn't happen just over the past year. But I love the fact I'm hearing ladies ask at the store, "Did you read it?" Just opens up everybody to the fact sex is good :D
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:14pm UTC
I'm always amazed when one book comes out as catalyst for an entire genre. I know so many people who never picked up an erotic story until 50 Shades and now everyone is talking about it.
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:17pm UTC
No I have not read it. I don't need fiction to enhance my sex life. I do read some erotica but it has been a while.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:18pm UTC
Talking is the complete key. I love it! Maybe we won't have to hide our book covers as often. lol Readers and writers!
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:22pm UTC
So true of course I never hide my book covers. I love reading and I don't mind who sees what I am reading. If it piques someone's interest and they start talking, then maybe they'll start reading too.

For all authors on the chat:
What genre(s) do you mainly write in?
And, do you have a favorite you like to write?
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:11pm UTC
I love contemporary romances. I didn't intend to be an erotic writer, but my book characters are naughty. Just sayin'
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC
I love fantasy and adventure and action but as far as the erotic side of storytelling is concerned - BDSM romance is my main focus. I'm looking at going more alpha male with my next 2 series though. Cataclysm Blues and another series - Dragonshifters. The first in the latter is tentatively titled, Burning Bright
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC
I never mind naughty. Lots of the heroes I write, are very naughty indeed
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:15pm UTC
Welcome Angela,

I am glad you are here. There are three authors in the spotlight for this chat. We have another one luking in the background. :)

Kate, SD and Cari are here for the questions
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:16pm UTC
I'm a total mishmash. My erotica--which tends to be short--is usually contemporary. And not always romantic. And then the real romantic gets out and I start writing historicals, but blend them with a touch of fantasy. Then there's the NASCAR obsession. Haven't done a romance with it, yet. But I will!

Fave? Uh, whatever the muse is telling me is my favorite at the moment.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:16pm UTC
Awesome, thank you
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:17pm UTC
My favorite genre will always be Historical Regency Romances. But, I have been known to write a contemporary or two. Still working on my historical period pieces now though
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:21pm UTC
My recently published Rough Surrender is historical romance but set in Cairo, 1910
It's blitzed every book review site it's been reviewed on. I have 10 out of 10 top awards as well as extra ones like Top Pick from TRR and Night Owl and Guilty Pleasures
Here's the blurb:

At a time when airplanes are as new-fangled and sensational as the telephone, Faith dares to fly. The one territory she has not explored is her own sexuality. In Leonhardt she discovers the man who can teach her how a woman surrenders her body and her mind. However, Leonhardt has a shadowed past and his own learning to do. He doesn't have the right to keep Faith from flying, even if he thinks airplanes are flimsy death-traps made of canvas, timber and their inventor's prayers.

Faith has her limits, Leonhardt has his flaws, and sometimes the nicest people get murdered by unscrupulous bastards. Even if Leonhardt can save the woman he loves, the battle for Faith’s heart will be the hardest one of all.

WARNING: BDSM, anal sex, orgasms galore, and a Dom who likes to claim his property with pen, ink and bondage.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:24pm UTC
Thanks for the warning at the end. I love being warned. Ha, ha
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:32pm UTC
LOL That warning was from my publisher. I always leave it in there anyway as there's no point reading a story that doesn't suit you.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:34pm UTC
Yes, that legal jargon gets you every time. Ha, ha

Author Cari Silverwood's BIO in her own words:

"Though I’d much rather stay invisible and spin you all tales with my words, here’s a little snippet of my world.

I have a lovely family, here in Australia, with the prerequisite teenager who dwells in the dark bedroom catacombs…a husband who raises eyebrows when he catches glimpses of what I write, and a furry menagerie of other animals barking, meowing, and swimming about the place.

I write stories that will blast you from your bed & heroes who will drag you back there by your hair and ravish you endlessly - think kink, adventure, and alpha men"
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:13pm UTC
That's an awesome bio.
Those alphas sure can be smoking.
Of course Betas are awesome as well
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:17pm UTC
LOL
Yes, alphas are a given with the kinky stories I write. In the BDSM spectrum I love the Dominance and submission side of it most of all. And that is just alpha to the max.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:19pm UTC
I love Betas that can be smoking in the bedroom and can become alpha.. Those are my faves
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:20pm UTC
You two are talking above my head on this one. :(

Elaborate please???
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:22pm UTC
Alphas are the take charge kind of guys that are usually brash, arrogant but have a decent streak in there somewhere.
Betas are the typical nice guys/boys next door sort of man
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:23pm UTC
Alpha is just a way of saying dominant. So in a romance an alpha man is one who takes charge. Think of all those bodice ripper stories. They generally have alpha men. In real life BDSM Dominance and submission is the DS part of the acronym.

Kate,

How did you chose your pen name? The name "Kate" reminds me of the girl next door but then you added the "Devlin" and that sparks things up a bit. :)
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:21pm UTC
I am a Kate, through and through, but the Devlin fits my writing a whole lot more than my real last name. My family raises their eyebrows at my books and then pats me on the head. I think they think I'll grow up and get over this phase, LOL.

What made you most interested in writing?
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:21pm UTC
Great question Amanda!
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:22pm UTC
It's a funny think about being a writer. You want people to hear what you have to say and somehow because you're always typing and perfecting, you may not state your opinions out loud. It's my way of letting the world know how I see it.

I have no idea if that made any sense. :P
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:24pm UTC
I can understand what you are saying, SD.

Do you just write in the Erotica genre?

Cari, SD, and Kate,

How did you get started in this genre?

Do you have another pen name and write other genres as well?

Do you find there is a huge market for Erotica Romance novels?

How did you know that you wanted to write Erotica instead of normal (for lack of a better word) romance novels?
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:26pm UTC
I have written pure fantasy and had it published but the market is possibly easier to find and bigger with erotic stories. Bear in mind the difference between erotica, where it's purely about the sex, and erotic romance, where there is a plot revolving around both the sexuality and the romance , and hopefully a more complex story also.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:26pm UTC
Connie, I plan to publish everything under my pen name. I'm trying for a tame romance, but it hasn't happened yet. I have five books in the works right now. Two close to being finished.
I like erotica because of the freedom you have. You can explore the relationship between your hero and heroine more fully in my opinion.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:29pm UTC
I think it ate my post...

My story, Taking Chances, in the anthology is about a threesome. I have a hard time suspending my sense of disbelief when it comes to reading about them, but Bailey loves two men, and TJ loves her enough to handle it. They had to become real for me before I could suspend my disbelief.

For those interesting in becoming published what tips do you have?
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:22pm UTC
Angela has begun to add her story, one chapter at a time on Gather. She is quite the writer but has not published yet. I can see her being published some day.

This is definitely Angela's genre
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:23pm UTC
Write. Write every day. Practice. I do a thousand words in the morning I'm not allowed to keep. I toss them no matter how wonderful they are. That's my practice time.

Write, and find a crit group. (We know the name of a great one for erotic writers.) Or a crit partner or both.

Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:25pm UTC
I have been writing every day since summer started with my kids out of school, that is always a good tip. And, you have to find that time wherever you can get it, that's for sure
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:25pm UTC
Kate,

Do the three of you that are in this chat tonight, critique each others work?
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:28pm UTC
I've critted for both S.D. and Cari, both. We aren't all in the same group any longer, but yes, for a long time we did. Watching a writer grow and flourish is just an amazing thing. I like getting to follow the stories start to finish.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:28pm UTC
I do love romance, usually don't write erotic stories... They are close but not quite Connie, ha, ha...
Erotic books are much more sensual than what I write. Because, I find that I really can't curse in my novels or write other words I am uncomfortable with
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:31pm UTC
And yes, get a crit partner or group! Then listen to them. The criticism will help you grow more than anything, even though it's hard to hear. Do loads of research. And last of all, never give up. There will be lots of those rejection letters...it happens to everyone. It doesn't mean your dream isn't meant to be.

Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:33pm UTC
Angela, it's good you can find time to write during summer break. I always find my writing slips off in the summer when I become a full time mom again.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:36pm UTC
I have received great feedback here on Gather, the people here are awesome. People like John Beck, who always catches my comma/grammar errors and other cool people just like him....

Veronica, my kids love the computer so I let them get on it to keep them occupied between meals so I can write.

What's the hardest part of the process?
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:28pm UTC
The writing LOL
But promo is difficult to balance once you have a story out there.
I have 5 books published and still haven't figured out how to promo effectively.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:33pm UTC
Editing for me. I'll leave giant holes in the plot and have to go back and fill them in. And then I think it's terrible. And then I pull my hair and hit delete and type some more...and finally hit send. Revisions are hell!
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:34pm UTC
Cari's right. The writing is my favorite part. I'm still learning my way through the mire that is promo. I know I'm not great at it, but the writing I love.
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:37pm UTC
Promo is the biggest thing holding me back from putting together a chapbook. I am not a social person and know I wouldn't promote a book well. There are a few chapbook publishers out there I know I should query, but they are small presses and I would have to help with promoting the book of they do accept it.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:37pm UTC
What is the hardest thing about promos? Are you allowed to write your own blurbs or do you have someone over your shoulder telling you what you can or can't write in them?
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:48pm UTC
Angela, it depends on the publisher. Small presses usually have the authors write their own blurbs. Big publishing companies write blurbs in house. No the problem I have with promo is going out and talking to strangers about my writing. I've done it a few times to promote the anthologies I've been published in. I just get stage fright, but I have made it through. The great thing about anthologies you usually aren't doing a promo solo.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:51pm UTC
Ah, so it's the promotion that has to be done yourself that's the hardest, I got it

Kate, SD, Cari,

Erotica is not a genre I read. That being said, I admire each of you for your writing skills. Many authors have told me that they wake up at night with a brilliant idea for their stories. Do you wake up with thoughts in your head and just have to write them down?

Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:29pm UTC
Not in the middle of the night. If I'm working on a story, I do have moments like that though. I often think I'll remember them if they're good but alas, they do seem to vanish sometimes if not scribbled down.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:30pm UTC
That is an awesome question Connie!
I don't wake up in the middle of the night with a great ideas. The ideas are constantly in my head and won't go away. I was even thinking what next to write in my story while I was driving to go get pizza. Not that I would recommend it, that can be dangerous. Lol
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:32pm UTC
Weeding a garden, cooking, doing almost anything other than writing is when my best ideas show up. I'll have dreams, or I'll wake up knowing what has to happen next, or what I wasn't seeing, but inspiration comes from everywhere.

Like at the gym today. The woman beside me on the treadmill was my mother's age, with her earbuds in her ears, music playing from her phone on her arm band. She looked over and said, "Oh, I have that one," in reference to whatever song was playing on my phone at the time. Well, the one she was talkking about was a raunchy little thing my kids found.
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:33pm UTC
LOL@ Angela,

I find that each author has a lot to offer the reader and budding authors. No matter what genre they write.

Keep your mind on your driving! LOL
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:33pm UTC
Angela, get a phone you can do voice messages with, and you're set!
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:35pm UTC
Cari,

Do you carry a small notebook with you for these thoughts?
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:35pm UTC
I get the best ideas before I go to sleep, when my mind is free to wander. That's when I see "the end." I'll see the finishing scene of the book, the characters and then I have to tell the story of how they got there.
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:37pm UTC
No. LOL I should have though
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:39pm UTC
That's okay, I don't need a phone...
I always remember what I was going to write, it will not leave my head at all, my stories always bug me till I write them down. I can tell you what I was going to write for my next chapter right now, because I still remember it in the back of my mind.
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:40pm UTC
Lol! If I'm having problems with an idea, I take a shower.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:42pm UTC
Good one Veronica!
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:46pm UTC
LOL @ the shower plan.
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:50pm UTC
It works for me. One time I took three showers in one day, but the rough draft of the story was completed in the end.

Kate, SD, Cari,

Do you write out your story line and then add the details of the scenes or do they just come naturally as part of the story line?
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:36pm UTC
I'm a panster--no outlining. I just write, in order, and pray I don't run into a wall somewhere along the line.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:36pm UTC
No, Connie,

I wait until my first character is fully formed in my head and start with her. Then, I sit down and ask her questions. Where were you born? Tell me about your family. When's your birhtday? Then, I start writing. I don't get to the kind of writing you're talking about until close to the end. By then, all the open choices are gone and you know exactly what's going to happen.

I'm a pantser, not a plotter.
Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:40pm UTC
I have never defined myself as either panster or plotter. Because I will start plotting, I will write, then my story changes on me without me realizing and it's going in a whole new direction. But, I do always write brief descriptions about my characters on paper

OK, now I have a question~have any of you read "50 Shades of Grey" yet, and your thoughts if you have? I'm thinking she "got lucky!"
Connie C. Aug 15, 2012, 7:34pm UTC
I have been hearing a lot about "50 Shades of Grey" lately. Is the author a first time author?
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:39pm UTC
I haven't read 50 Shades, yet. But have been reading the BDSM genre for years. I love it. It's what I load on my kindle when I want to escape from my life.

I believe she was a first time author.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:39pm UTC
August Lady, I haven't read it, actually, but I've done a good bit of research into the BDSM lifestyle. But yeah, I think she got lucky!!!
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:44pm UTC
50 Shades is based on Twilight. So it's fan fiction. I believe she got lucky in that there is a HUGE fan base for fan fiction and these followed the story when it was published.
August Lady Aug 15, 2012, 7:48pm UTC
Thanx for answering, & I do wish you all as much success!!!
Veronica Hosking Aug 15, 2012, 7:53pm UTC
Yes fan fiction is where I got my writing start (star trek) and I got great feed back about my writing from trek writers. Since I've steered more towards nonfiction and poetry, but I don't think I would have been confident in my writing ability without the critiques and encouragement I received by authors I enjoyed reading.

OK, I was not going to ask this but alas. . . Inquiring minds want to know.. . .

How do you separate your novels from your personal life? I assume you do not talk "dirty" in normal conversation. :)

Do your friends know you by your given name or pen name?

Do your friends and family read your books?

What does "MOM" think of your books?
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:40pm UTC
My husband knows what I write. Otherwise no, my daughter has a vague idea, but no one else knows my pen name except hubs.

The thing is, my characters, despite engaging in sex in the story LOL are people. Real people don't talk dirty except with their intimate partners.
And much of the erotic part is in the description and not in the dialog.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:42pm UTC
Mom doesn't read them, but she's thrilled I'm writing. She's waiting for me to write a tame one she can send to her friends. I'm trying. My first book was a lesbian/zombie thing. Very few of my family members were interested. This story was much more within my normal boundaries.

BUT!!! I got out of handling, "OH I want to read your book!" by saying, "Well, it's a zombie thing..."
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:42pm UTC
My Mom--I love her. Quote, "I'm thrilled that you are in touch with your sensual side." She has read all my books. She liked "A Widow's Justice" the most--but she was always a sucker for John Wayne. My MIL introduced me at the family reunion as a writer of sexy books. I was bright red.

I'm a very normal person...you would never know I've got characters undressing in my head. lol I often wonder if that should change.

Angela A. Aug 15, 2012, 7:45pm UTC
That is a good one Connie. In normal conversation no...
But, in the bedroom that's a different story. Te he!
By the way, my hubby is the beta type, but an alpha in the bed, just sayin
→ Victoria ← Aug 15, 2012, 7:46pm UTC
S.D., I LOVE John Wayne myself!! LOL
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:48pm UTC

Do you feel like there are prejudices about being writers of erotica? I know until Shades of Grey came out no one really talked about it.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:51pm UTC
I think there is a prejudice against the romance genre in general. Erotic romance doesn't get that much more of a hit, in my opinion.,
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:51pm UTC
There are prejudices of writers in all genres. It's a very weird thing. Literaries don't talk to the romancers who don't understand the sci-fi thing who are not interested in horror... But actually, I've discovered people are very welcoming when they discover you've chased your dream.

How long are the stories in the FREE anthology Erotic Escapades?

The book is free at the link in the post as well as the comment area.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:52pm UTC
Mine was about 6k, but that was because this fabulous ending showed up when I hadn't expected it!
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:53pm UTC

I've read a few paranormal romances I've discovered since the Kindle and Nook took off, which are hardly erotica, but are any of you interested in anything like that?
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:52pm UTC
Yes, but I don't write paranormal as well as contemporary. I read it, though!

Do any of you ever offer your books for free in ebook form? I've discovered a few authors I like that way - through getting their book for free, liking it, and then buying more.

Also, do any of you write your erotica stories in series form? Like multiple books? Sort of how the Shades of Grey books were a trilogy.
Kate Devlin Aug 15, 2012, 7:58pm UTC
I'm writing most of my books in the same, little fictitious, Texas town. The people will be familiar from book to book.
S.D. Grady Aug 15, 2012, 7:58pm UTC
I don't write in series. Just don't. Don't know why.
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 7:58pm UTC
Yes I have a 3 book steampunk series called the Steamwork Chronicles
Cari Silverwood Aug 15, 2012, 8:00pm UTC
I'm also aiming at writing a PNR post apoc series called Cataclysm Blues and a new Dragon shifter series

Please remember that Kate, SD, and Cari has donated the free ebook to be given away tonight as well as other prizes. You can show your gratitude to these authors by purchasing their books and asking your local library to order them for you as well.

There are many books given away via ebook form. You can find links in the post itself and the comment section.
